Environmentalism Month?

You probably wouldn't have cared for Walt Disney much then since all of Animal Kingdom completely represents how passionate Walt Disney felt about conservation and environmentalism. :)

Actually this has made me decide to buy a quest kiosk...I know exactly what I'll be doing a quest on! :)

Excuse me, but I know who Walt was and what he represented and I don't need anyone telling me about what I would/wouldn't care for seeing as how no one on this board truly knows me or knows any of my ideas or opinions, so don't tell me what I should or should't care for. And I really don't appreciate personal attacks since I didn't make any the first place. As far as conservation goes, whether it seems like it or not I agree with Walt, and Walt Disney is my greatest hero in life, he came from a simple farm as a child and look what he did in his lifetime... created an American icon, began THE most succesful theme park chain in the world, and made his own a household name, he is everything I aspire to be as a young artist myself. But back on topic. Should we enjoy, salvage, and protect the flora and fauna of our global wildlife? Of course. But do we need to write stupid songs, lecture our youth, and make it part of a game that has to do with a theme park? No, because that doesn't solve the problem does it? I'm all for environmentalism, just not the riddiculous commercial lecturing that it so often goes hand in hand with.

Whoa whoa whoa...I think you completely misread my comment. I wasn't trying to be mean and I'm not sure how that could even be taken as a personal attack, I said nothing that put you down. But I am sorry that my words were taken that way. You said Conservation Station was borderline preachy...I just pointed out that Animal Kingdom completely represents Walt's passion for environmentalism and conservation

so don't tell me what I should or should't care for
I didn't say "you shouldn't care for him"...I said you probably wouldn't. Obviously you do, but I was trying to point out something Walt felt very passionate about.

But do we need to write stupid songs, lecture our youth, and make it part of a game that has to do with a theme park?
Well Animal Kingdom is a theme park which promotes conservation...and VMK has promoted Animal Kingdom...so I don't see the problem with VMK also promoting what Animal Kingdom stands for. As I mentioned in an earlier post, VMK is basically one big advertisement for Disney, and Disney's Environmentality is a very important thing to the company...so I don't really find an issue with them also incorporating their beliefs into their game.

I'm all for environmentalism, just not the riddiculous commercial lecturing that it so often goes hand in hand with.
I also don't care for commercialism...unfortunately because environmentalism is so overlooked, commercialism tends to be the only way to catch anyone's attention anymore on the subject. That really bothers me. :(

As far as stupid songs and "lectures", etc...that is all in the eye of the beholder...to each his own. :) I'll pop in my wonderful collection of "Disney's True Life Adventures" and pop some popcorn now. :)

Does this mean we will NOT be getting Exxon Valdez Tanker furniture this mont?

I hope this means we get a Jiminy Cricket pin, as Jiminy is Disney's Environmentality spokesman!! Spokesinsect. Spokescricket. YAY!!!

You know, as lame as this theme seems, I would be behind it 100% if it involved BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY.

BILL BILL BILL BILL! (science rules) BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY!

Okay I'm done now.

I LOVE THAT SHOW

I think environmentalism is great and all, I'm just sad it isn't an Epcot theme. Even though environmentalism is part of Epcot, it's not the same.

I was just about to post this same thing! How cool would a Jiminy Cricket pin be!

Oh gosh I forgot about Jiminy and I was just looking at the Environmentality site! A pin with him would be AWESOME!

I'm actually trying to figure out when they'll do an Epcot theme. I know it's Epcot's 25th anniversary this year...but the actual date isn't until October. While it would make sense to have it coincide with the actual anniversary month, I really hope we don't have to wait that long for it!

Hmm, I could actually see them going for the Epcot theme in September then. September is kind of a hard month to theme because there's no holidays, whereas October has the flood of Halloween stuff that would not really fit with the Epcot theme. But like you, I hope we don't have to wait that long!

Oh, and I second the Jiminy Cricket Environmentality pin. That's perfect!

I just want to know how in the world the Environment Race thing is going to work! The description says that teams will have to race out of the start room and the team to make it back in first, wins. How in the world will THAT work will VMK pass?! Can we say Nightmare!!!!:scared1:

Politics does not belong in a children's game. Let's get that straight, right now .
Agreed.
If VMK wants to nail this perfectly, then they have to do it right. No politics, only the environment.
Sounds nice, but last I checked, there were lots of politics attached to this.

Do I think it's important to care for the environment? You bet. I also think it's important to help the homeless, rescue stray animals, promote literacy, fight drug abuse, and strengthen families, among other things. However, I would never consider it appropriate for VMK to become an educational platform for any of these topics.
I think that there is a very thin line between teaching and preaching. I hope that this doesnt turn into a political message, but knowing WDW, they are good at keeping it friendly. But I do have to admit that I avoid some of the attractions at WDW because I find them too preachy.
Granted, the Disney Company has a history of promoting environmental issues, and that's fine.

But if VMK is going to take on the role of "educating", I would hope they'd start with things a little closer to home; such as consumer awareness, healthy values, contentment, and respect towards others.

Of course, they're only a game.....

Oh wow...totally forgot all about Jiminy too...
Yes that would be awesome...so cool if we were to get Jiminy Pins!! :goodvibes

okay, so a Jiminy Cricket pin. that's one of four weeks covered. :rolleyes1

maybe a tree of life pin?
recycle pin?
save the ocean pin?

be kind, rewind. pin?

"don't drive an SUV because they're not environmentally friendly" pin?

"tell your parents not to flick their cigarette butt out the car window while driving down the road" pin? (that might have to be abbreviated or something)

"People that do not sustain trees will soon live in a world that will not sustain people."

I know people want Epcot, but the enviroment is a little more important

I understand that it wasn't meant to be a personal attack, but that's how it was to me. Saying I wouldn't like Walt Disney, to me, is worse than flipping throungh the dictionary and calling me every derrogatory word in there. To tell you the truth, besides Africa, Asia, and the Tree of Life, I really don't like Animal Kingdom. Africa and Asia as "lands" are really the only ones that have Disney quality theming and ambience. As far as Conservation Station and the Circle of Life attractions, I think using beloved Disney characters to pretty much fill the watcher with guilt is absolutely horrendous. Why toy with human emotion like that just to prove a point? How do you think a little kid feels when he sees Simba basically blaming him and the rest of the audience for pollution? I just don't think commercialism and guilt are the only ways to convey a message. Well.. now I've debated until my fingers hurt.. LOL I'll probably write an article in my blog about the effects of commericalism, so stay tuned :goodvibes

People are bringing up LOTS of good pointers here but still think about it: This is a kids game, where kids can be themselves and kinda get away from things that are bothering them (say they're in a fight with their best friend). I don't think they're gonna want to play the Host game:

Find The Ozone Door!

Description: Want to save the earth? Find the right door that leads to the next Ozone. People that make it to the last layer will win the full set of Ozone pins!

blech :crazy2:

I am getting in here late, and really havent read many of the posts. I would just like to point out that:

A) Disney is one of the nations largest poilluters
B) the "Conservation" station does not teach conservationism, but protectionism (there is a big difference)

I am glad to see all the support for my proposed Bill Nye theme ;) I am seriously sending that into the Black Hole.

(inertia is a property of matter) BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY!

Oh great, another reason my DD9 will nag me about our lack of recycling box for the kitchen! LOL

Seriously, I think any time we can beat it into our heads that life on this planet is fragile, and we all play a part in keeping our little terrarium alive and well, is excellant.

If we could get Disney and McDonald's to think about how much trash they produce, we'd save our children and grandchildren a lot of headaches!

off my soap box now!
