Entrees or Apps that Serve 2 on the Dining Plan

Thinking of DDP or DxDP this year . . . I know that some restaurants have entrees or appetizers that serve 2 people (stated as such on the menu).

Are these things off limits on the dining plan? Or can you do it and that 1 big entree is simply "split" and counted as an entree for 2 people? (I'm thinking of the mixed grill dishes at La Hacienda in particular b/c DH and I had that in March, and he might be sorry if I told him he couldn't have it this year b/c of the plan.) :)

Most of these you can do but you will use the DP for two people. So if you are on the Deluxe dining plan and you choose an appetizer for two then that is all you get. If it's for two... plan on using two TS credits. :thumbsup2

Ok, so on the DxDP, we could do:

1 appetizer specially defined as being for 2 people
2 entrees
2 desserts
2 cokes

And we'd be fine, wouldn't go over our credits, or pay OOP (except tip of course)?

Correct
Or in your La Hacienda example if you got the entree for 2 you would get

2 appetizers
1 entree specially defined as being for 2 people
2 desserts
2 cokes
for 2 TS credits

Also, it will depend on the restaurant so always have a back up plan if they say no. In the past we have had reports of people being denied ordering anything that was listed as for 2, even if both people are willing to use their credit. There really didn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to it at times.

There are a few restaurants though that will let each person order an appetizer for two on the DxDDP. I know Mama Melrose does. I've gotten the antipasta platter for two and also the calamari for two as my appetizer and my dining partner was still able to get their own appetizer. These instances are few and far between though. Normally an item for two, must be ordered by two people and takes two credits.

There have also been reports that Via Napoli will only allow two people to share a large pizza and they must be adult credits. If a third person is there, they must order their own meal.

Lovely! But I assumed this could be the case here and there.

This is fine - I doubt we'd want to order 1 app for two and then an additional app. I'm fine with us sharing an app specifically for two and having that count for both of our credits.

Via Napoli is interesting; I was wondering how they worked the pizza sizes. I'd much prefer to share 1 large pizza (and have it count for both our credits) than each of us have to order 2 individual sized pizzas.

I wonder if VN's agua frescas count as your drink on the DDP . . . they are more than sodas, but it would be nice if that was an option.

Sorry...but they won't let you order this on DDP.

Darn! I saw in my Kona post that somebody got a virgin pina colada or something on the plan, so I got hopeful! :)

Unfortunately the Agua Frescas aren't allowed. The Disney owned restaurants such as Kona can be more flexible with the Dining Plan rules. The non-Disney owned restaurants such Via Napoli are reimbursed by Disney according to the rules of the plan and Disney will not reimburse them for non-fountain beverages such as the AF or for anything else outside of the plan's rules.

Aha - that makes sense!
