I am not sure, I do know that each time we went in that way we were asked if we were a guest at that hotel, they asked to see the room key so I am assuming that answer would be no.

It really depends on how strictly they're enforcing the policy. Technically, it is for GCH hotel guests, but I get the sense that it is more important at peak times in the morning than most other times. If ped traffic is slow later in the day, they still have to staff it with one or 2 CM's. Not justifying it, but that's the reality.
Yes you can. The GCH entrance into CA can be used by ALL guests staying at any of the Disney hotels. It is NOT exclusive to guests of the Grand Californian.
However, you may be required to show a Disney hotel room key card. Everytime we've used this entrance, the CMs there check bags and ask everyone for their tickets, as well as Disney hotel room key cards.
Okay, I still have our welcome folder from our stay at the Paradise Pier, and this is what it says.
"Theme Park Entrances - As a Guest of the Paradise Pier Hotel you have access to our exclusive entrance into Disney's California Adventure Park. The gate is located at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel. You will need your theme park passports and room keys in order to enter. Disneyland can be reached by passing through Downtown Disney."
Yes you can no problem as PP said! We use it all the time no matter which Disney hotel we stay at and have never had a problem. We do always have to show our key though, so make sure you have one on you!
Years ago there was actually a private entrance right across the street from PP. This has been closed for a few years now. You can still cross the street and enter DCA through the GCH entrance. Either way - it is not a bad walk - and the PP is a great hotel!!
And as Matterhorn said, the walk to the parks is not bad at all. Just remember that the shortest route to either DL or DCA is to cut through the GCH. So to sum it up, if going to DL or DCA, you will ALWAYS GO THROUGH the GCH (unless you take the monorail into DL).
