Entitled much? Delta loses beauty queen's luggage...

Ridiculous. I've had an airline change my flight after I arrived at the airport, forcing me to wait extra hours in the terminal and promising me that yes, my luggage would be moved from the original flight to the new flight. I even stood at the counter while the Gate Agent called to have my luggage - and that of three other affected passengers - pulled and moved.

Surprise. My luggage never left Boston that day. Oh, but wait. While at least the Baggage Agent at my destination was able to determine that, it - just like Miss Sue Them and Fire Them's - wasn't lost. Ever. True, in her case, Delta couldn't immediately locate her/their luggage, but it was actually in their facility and under their control the entire time.

As for the transportation voucher, I had a related problem with Delta a couple of years ago. A maintenance delay meant I was going to miss the last bus home from the airport, and I hadn't planned for a taxi. I talked to the GA in Orlando, who said he'd arrange for a voucher for me in Boston. Guess what? Right - no voucher. I calmly explained the problem to the Gate Agent there, and he was able to issue one.

You're being sarcastic, right?
They not only lose luggage, but it takes them 5 months to reimburse for the lost item!:headache:
I'm still waiting FOUR YEARS later for Delta to reimbuse me - 6 months sounds like heaven.

I traved hundreds of thousand or miles in the past 20 years. The only bag lost forever was on the Delta flight to Orlando (non-top). I'm pretty sure the bag was stolen out of the luggage area. Someone went to the wrong baggage, area and the rest of us followed like lemmings. I had nothing of real value in the suitcase - short, tshirts and toiletries. But I still can't believe that Delta never reimbursed me a dime.

First rule of flying: All vital items should be packed in your carry-on..

Luggage gets lost all the time - and I would be very surprised to learn that this was the first time they had flown anywhere - beauty pageant or otherwise..

Nearly 9 years later and I'm still waiting on my Delta to US Air luggage with my bridesmaid dress in it! Seriously! I know I shouldn't have checked it but I was traveling alone with my then 4 month old baby and I just couldn't carry anything else on.

I was compensated by US Air even though they didn't lose the bag.

This was pre-9/11 and my luggage didn't make it on my US Air flight so they put it on the next flight out to the same airport. That was a Delta plane. It was somehow lost forever as Delta was internally transferring it to US Air at O'Hare. 24 hours after my flight Delta confirmed that they had it and were transferring it to US Air's baggage service...9 years later, I'd like my stuff back!

Yes, I was going to a wedding...and yep they lost the dress. Luckily the bride was SO NOT a bridezilla and I bought a suit and the day went on!

In June of 2001 we flew Delta to go on a cruise and our two primary suitcases never showed up, anywhere. I was able to determine they were stolen by baggage handlers at Delta's terminal in Newark, NJ. I also doubt much has been done to improve security in baggage handling since. That was the first time we had every used trip insurance, but the cruise was ruined. Delta did reimburse us for the lost items, adjusted for depreciation (just about everything was brand new), but it took a fair amount of pressure to get them to even respond. I was going to go after them for ruining the cruise, but priorities changed Sept. 11th of that year.

Lessons learned: Never, ever trust baggage handlers with anything you're not willing to lose and always get trip insurance. Better yet, avoind flying whenever possible.

If I was treated the way the mom was, I'd want that person fired too, they clearly are the wrong person for that job. I also don't see the big deal about an 11 year old saying the want to sue someone, since she probably has no idea what that actually means, and I have heard my own kids say things like that but of course aren't serious. Going to the media over it is a bit over the top though.

I am honestly not surprised more luggage is not lost..LOL..after seeing how bags are handled at the airport(thats behind the scenes). I ride through our bagroom all the time, and see pieces of luggage just laying there...usually from the ppl driving to fast, and bags falling out of the trolley..makes me not want to travel..LOL
