Entertainment Fee at 'Ohanas's?

We are going to 'Ohana's tonight, and our reservation is much later than we usually eat (the earliest time we were able to get when I booked 5 months ago). The kids (12 & 14) are probably going to be hungry and looking for their dinner a couple of hours before our reservation time. I have heard of some of the character meals charging an "entertainment fee" for non-diners. Is there something like that at 'Ohanas in case I end up letting them eat earlier?

Interesting question. Since 'Ohana is an all you can eat restaurant I would think there would be some kind of charge involved similar to a buffet.

Can they just have a snack a few hours before to hold them over until dinner? It might be hard to see all that food on the table and not touch any of it. I know it wouldn't work for my teenager but he's an eating machine.

My son doesn't like much of it anyway, so he wouldn't have a problem not eating it. Last time, the CM overheard me nagging him about eating his meal and she offered to bring him something from Kona, so he ate chicken fingers. I wouldn't have asked for something different for him, but I was glad to accept when she offered. It bugs me to have to pay $27. for him when he would rather have a $6. hamburger, but DH and I enjoy the meal and the kids like the entertainment.

My other option was to let them go to Capt. Cook's while we eat at 'Ohanas. I am sure at their ages they could manage to feed themselves at a counter service restaurant.

It's been years since we had this dilemma, but when my son didn't eat, we were still charged the same cost as if he did. They said all guests had to pay - I suppose because it's family style, and it would be hard for them to determine if you were scamming them.:confused3

Hopefully, someone who has had this situation more recently can give some insight.

If you think they'd be happier eating at Captain Cooks, why not let them eat there? You know them best, if they can handle being unsupervised for an hour or two, go for it. You might also scout out the arcade & load up a couple of arcade cards for them, so they can enjoy themselves while you have dinner without them. If you'll be there at the right time, there might also be the possibility of watching Wishes from the Poly beach area. :)
