Hi everyone,

It was mentioned in a previous post that there is an entertainment book you can purchase and it can give you discount on area hotels. I have a few questions about this:

1.)Where can you buy the book and what is the cost?

2.)How do you use it to get the discounts? I'm specifically looking for a discount on the HOJO for then end of January.

3.) Do they make new ones every January? I'm just wondering if the ones out now would still be good for our trip.

Thanks so much for all your help! :sunny:

The Entertainment books come out every November. There are different versions for major metro areas. There is an Orange County California book, but it is not necessary to purchase one for that area just for hotel discounts. With any area's book, you are entitled to the hotel discounts for all over the world.

The books contain hundreds of coupons for dinning, entertainment, hotels, travel, attractions, etc. Many of the coupons are good nationwide (fast food chains mostly) but the majority of your coupons will be for places in the area covered by the book.

The books are $20-30. You can purchase online at entertainment.com but also many non-profit groups are selling them as fundraisers right now. Sometimes the website even offers online memberships depending on your area.

entertainment.com offers it, but you have to pay for shipping. Check out mousesavers.com for occasional specials on the books. Many schools or sports organizations in your home town would likely be selling it as a fundraiser.

I would suggest getting the book for your own area so that you can take advantage of local restaurants and fast food joints throughout the year. The website can give you sample pages so you can see what to expect.

Each book comes with an entertainment card -- a plastic credit card. For fancy restaurants, you show the card. There are also coupons in the book for fast food, retail, and car rentals which you only need the paper coupons for.

For the hotels, all you need to do is call the hotel you're interested in and see if they offer an entertainment rate. The HoJos do, but the rooms are limited. Call and see what the regular rate is, and what the entertainment rate is for your stay. If it's worth it, you can then order the entertaiment book. You'll need to show the card at check-in.

The books go from November to November. The "2007" editions which go from November 1, 2006 to November 1, 2007 are available for purchase now. But like I said, check out whether you'll be making your money's worth before purchase.

I booked the HoJos with the sales director (on website) and it was not cheaper for me to go with an entertainment rate. I have heard people getting their basic double/double room for $49 though, so it's definitely worth asking.

Our school is just wrapping up an entertainment book fund raiser. If you would like to order one online, and help our school PM me and I'll give you the code.

edit: I just realized you are in Seattle- we are selling the south end or Seattle/ east side version. They are $30 each. That is a bit cheaper then online.
Thanks!

Has anyone actually gotten good deals using these books? I find the things in the book are not usually places that we frequent so I don't feel that what I have gotten in discounts has even covered the cost of the book. I would be interested to hear if others find this a good deal.

We live in the Seattle area and have gotten the entertainment book each year since we've lived here. We must have lucked out in our area since we do frequent a few of the restaurants in our book. After 2 or 3 dinners the book pays for itself. Last year we used the united airlines coupon and saved $100 total on 4 tickets and about $50 on our rental car to go to disneyland. And in August, we were lucky enough to get hojo's for the $49 enteretainment rate. There's also grocery coupons such as $5 off a $50 purchase at Safeway. I always forget to use these though. We've also used the book for the 2 for 1 coupons to local museums and fairs. So we definitely get our money's worth and more.

We purchase at least one each year. Even if you only use a few coupons you get your money's worth (and often a tax deduction if you purchase from a charity group!)

I have found that if I use the card for the buy one get one dinners I only have to use two to have the book pay for itself. Then I also save on top of that at movies, fast food etc. Use it once for a hotel room and you are sure to save over 30.00 the cost of the book. Now my book is usually over 90% unused BUT I never feel like I am not getting my money worth.

What resturants are in these books? I always use one airline to build up my free miles (and United isn't it) - so the airline discount is out. I did buy the movie tickets once - but the theater chain that they were for was limited in my area and they expired before I could use them up. What else is in these books?

If you go to entertainment.com you can put in your area and see what is in the book. We've had our book a couple weeks. So far we've used one for Chuck E Cheese. We had to go for a bday party, so we bought pizza for dh and I , and the kids got the tokens. Last weekend we used one for buy a salad, get a salad at McDonalds. We also used one for Quiznos for free chips and a drink with a sandwich purchase. The Seattle book has discounts for the zoo, flight museum, etc. Movies at Regal theaters are $6 each, that is about $3-3.50 savings per ticket. There are pages of those in the book. The hotel discounts require the card. Some are 1/2 price, others are a % discount.

I get the local one every year, and often one for a vacation destination. We'll be at DL and Newport Beach in November. Is the book worth it for coupons to area restaurants or grocery stores in Newport? Is Catal in the book?
