I know that I don’t post much here, but I do read many if not all of the new posts, respond to some, and most of the people are very friendly. Some of the things discussed on this board are very interesting, but as of late many of the posts have become very nasty, and it shows the immaturity, ungratefulness and arrogance of some posters.

First thing that everyone needs to realize is that we all live in a democratic society. The voting system that we have has been something that makes us the envy of many nations, because it is a freedom that many countries still do not have. The whole purpose of the voting system is to get a majority of individuals in favor of a candidate for a certain office. I am very sorry if your candidate was not the majority winner, but if you would like, there are many monarchies, kingdoms, ect. around the globe that you could move to, and hopefully living in that type of society will save you the heartbreak of not getting the individual that you want to run your country, because quite honestly, you won’t have a choice. Maybe while your there you can bring up the idea of democracy to fellow citizens, but in many places you may not be able to speak such words. The point I am making is DON’T DISRESPECT THE FREEDOMS THAT PEOPLE BEFORE YOU HAVE FOUGHT AND DIED FOR.

Now with that being said I would like to turn my attention to the number of candidates running for the office of president of the United States. Hopefully, you are all aware that it was not just a Bush vs. Kerry race. Those two were the most popular candidates, but there were other individuals besides them. Isn’t if funny that we don’t see people crying and moaning that Ralph Nader didn’t win the election. Why, because he did not win the popular vote and the electoral votes. Face reality, not enough people believed in him, didn’t vote for him, end of story. I doubt people are threatening to move from the country because Nader didn’t win. They sucked it up, and should be thankful at least that their voice was able to be heard in this democratic society.

I really do enjoy these boards. I think that the individuals on here are all very responsive, helpful and all around good people. But come on people, you live in the United States of America, and you are complaining and being bitter over the freedoms that individuals around this globe would do anything to have. Sometimes you don’t really realize what you have until you look at it from the outside. WE ARE NOT AS BAD OFF AS A LOT OF YOU THINK WE ARE! We could all be living in extreme poverty, tortured by our government, killed for our beliefs and have no voice or choice in what’s going on around us. Be thankful and proud to be an American citizen, and if you not, no big loss, I’m sure we can find someone else who would cherish the freedoms that you think have somehow done you wrong.

I like your post. I have lived in the Middle East for 2 years, a long time ag, and I cherish my freedom. I have seen with my own eyes how other countries live and I am very thankful I am an American and I try not to take my freedom for granted.

You know what, people can say whatever they want. Isn't that also the beauty of this country? I don't agree with some of what you are saying, but who cares what I think!! That's what so great!

Luckily, I don't get so angry at things people type on the internet...

It's an interesting topic these days, and people are going to talk about it.:)

You aren't giving the old "love it, or leave it" speech are you? How helpful is that? We, dissenters, aka (democrates) have every right to express our opinion too. Although I ahve been refraining from it due to some obsessive annoying people.:D

Actually we are not a democracy, but a Representative Republic, but I do agree. We should be thankful of what we have.

people can be thankful for what they have and want to try to improve it too.

It's not the "ole" love it or leave it. It's realizing all that you have. You woke up this morning and were free to do whatever you wanted. That includes typing your opinions of political issues on the internet. Some people don't have that freedom that we all are guilty at times of overlooking. Think what you want of my post, but they are my opinions that I decided to get off my chest.:D

Elephants can't jump, but they can reach some of the highest branches.:sunny:

"Overlooking our freedoms." are you assuming that one partisan group overlooks "their freedoms" more than the other?

Unfortunately this post comes out as sounding 'holier than thou'. Although I may be getting the wrong interpretation. I'm sure that you are a nice, open-minded person who is willing to listen to all different perspectives, yes, no?:D

I think I'm a nice person, and I do enjoy listening to others opinions. But on the other hand I do no like whining. I hear alot of that lately, and honestly it does get a little old after awhile. I am also aware that elephants can't jump, but I have never seen a donkey get much on his vertical either.

Welcome to the politics of the DIS. I think by posting dissent that we are acknowledging the freedoms we have. It may not be a conscious acknowledgement but isn't that even better - that we are so comfortable in the freedom that we can feel safe expressing opposition in such a public forum?

If the election had gone the other way, I would certainly have expected similar "whining and moaning" from the Bush supporters. When emotions run so high before an event it is very normal for them to still run high afterwards - whether or not the outcome was the one wanted.

As for the supporters of the other presidential candidates not complaining that their "guy" didn't win - do you really think they could be so self-deluding that they thought their candidate could actually win? I certainly support their right to get their candidate on the ballot, campaign, have fund raisers, etc. but I would never assume they thought the campaign would do much more than get some needed attention to their issues and views. Sure, at a local or state level they can and do get their candidates elected but I doubt anyone would think it would happen for the office of president.

In addition, because the number of alternative candidate supporters is so low I would be surprised if there are many registered with the DIS. As such, there is a low probability of having more than one or two such complaints... and the board moves so fast those would probably drop off the first few pages of threads very quickly.
