Enough to do at Discovery Cove for a 5yr old?

June 12 is our big day! All six of us going to DC. No Dolphin experience for my nieces family. Will my grand niece 5 have enough to do?

Where would a good shady area near the beach be for us to set up at? Or is there a highly recommended spot?

Has anyone been recently? Hoping the Grand Reef will be open and we can do the sea venture thing.

Any advice will be helpful.

Our daughter was 5 when we went to Discovery Cove in October, and she loved it. If you have a chance for her to practice with the snorkel before you go, I highly recommend it. We used a life jacket, and after practicing during the summer, my daughter was able to snorkel in the reef quite well. She loved the aviary and the lazy river. She was a bit timid in the sting ray pool, but she got braver as the day went by.

It was a wonderful experience for our family--I hope you have a fantastic time!

Thanks! I'll have to bring that up to my niece. She really should practice. We taught my son in tub when he was like 4 so it can be done.

Just as a FYI they do NOT check for age of the children. They go by whatever age you tell them the kids are when you check in. I mention this only because when we went my daughter was only 5 but she desperatly wanted to participate in the dophin hands on experience and ride sooooooo I told a supper small little white lie and you know what it was sooooooo worth it. Both of my daughters were able to participate and they had the time of their lives.

As long as she does not have a fear of water or fish, she'll have a great time.
