I have a BOG reservation at 8:05 AM, our plan is to check in and not even be seated (if that's an option) we are only going to see the castle. We may order a cup of coffee if we have to but the point is we aren't going to be spending the time dining. The plan is to tour the castle then get out in time for the opening show but my concern is that there won't be enough time to get a good spot to see it. So how early before it begins do we need to be waiting at the castle in order to get a good spot? If you were me would you cancel the BOG res and get something later instead?

TIA

if all you want to do is look inside, you don't even need a reservation. just tell the person in front you want to take a look inside and they will show you where to go. it's just 3 rooms and won't take more than 5 minutes

That's not what I've heard, I have heard that you need to have a reservation in order to see the castle. Unless that has changed?

ive never had that problem but I always go when it is empty. maybe if you go when BOG is busiest they won't let you in, but I would assume you would have no problem at rope drop.

Instead of taking a reservation for BOG away from someone that legitimately wants to eat there, just enter Main Street at 8am when it opens and get up front to see the show.

If we want to see the castle and won't be allowed in unless I have a reservation then I'm going to keep the reservation :) I get what you are saying but if that's what it takes to get in and see it then that's our only option. We've heard the food sucks there so we aren't ok with throwing away money on food we won't enjoy. I checked with the moms panel on the Disney website and they confirmed that there is no obligation to buy food when you have a reservation so unless I am breaking r

Except rope drop isn't for another hour after the res. So not sure I am willing to risk it on a whim, this is our first trip and will probably be our only trip so I'd rather just keep it than be told we can't enter. I checked with the moms panel on the Disney website and they confirmed that there is no obligation to buy food except with the pre-paid meals so I wouldn't be against informing them when we check in that we are only there to tour the castle and that they can give the reservation to someone else. I might call them and just confirm if that's ok, if it isn't then yeah - we'll sit down and order coffee but the food there doesn't have the greatest rep from what I've heard.

Ergh seriously? There’s plenty of beautiful places to look at in Disney World. It’s a restaurant. If you don’t want the food don’t take the table away from somebody who does.

We paid for our disney trip just as much as anyone else, I have no issues. Unless I am breaking park rules which as far as I can see I am not.

the food isn't terrible. it isn't great by any stretch, but its more of an overhyped/under delivered type of thing. imo its not the best move to take up a reservation just so you can see the castle but that is up to you to decide. it may not be against any specific rule, but it definitely is against the spirit of it all.

lol, no because we are already paying to eat at other restaurants the entire time we are there ;) If you read my posts above I have already said that when we check in I have no issues informing them that we aren't planning on eating so they can give the reservation to someone else...

Is there anyone who is going to actually answer the question?? I wanted to know if there is enough time to get to the opening show or if we need to be there earlier to get a good spot?

have to agree with you...people work super super SUPER hard to get BOG reservations. getting a reservation is basically winning the lotto. so you should at least eat there...

to the OP, if you arrive as soon as park opens, you will see the show. we got in at 8 AM, show didn't start till 9 AM. plenty of time to get a good spot.

How exactly can they do that when the park isn’t even open?

That's not our plan, sorry if that offends you! :)

I'll just call Disney and ask them directly about the timeline. Thanks anyways everyone

Did it ever occur to you that once you tell them you’re not eating, they might not let you in the restaurant?

I phoned Disney AND asked the moms panel and they both said that there is "no obligation to eat or buy food". So nope - not worried about that one bit.
