I agree with Pete... enough is enough when it comes to DCL.

We've cruised with them every year for six years. HOWEVER, this will be our last.

I'm not happy with 2010. I don't want to go to Europe and I don't want to pay those CRAZY prices. I like the caribbean.

Have you seen the prices for 2010... the price of a five day cruise is more than we're paying this year for a seven day!

Pete was right, enough is enough Disney!

Remember us, the little people? The ones who pay for your boats!!!! Give me a break in this economy!!!

I want to cruise DCL in 2010, looks like Pete was right (again) RCCL will be getting my money.

I share your feelings, we have been for the last 2 years and the whole family loves it!

I just cannot afford the increasing prices. My DD is so bummed that we won't be able to go this year, but I booked a pirate themed room at CBR this August so at least we will be sleeping in a Disney boat of some sort:rotfl2:

to go on Disney. We have done Carnival, RCCL and Norweigan and the kids really want to try Disney too! When the cost to do a 7 day Disney is 2 1/2 times of any other line for the same room, we just can not justify it.

DCL has, in my opinion, become elitist, plain and simple. Until that changes, even though we can afford it, we refuse to participate!

Agree, if it wasn't for the podcast cruise I would be cruising on RCL this year for spring break. DCL just can't compete with them when they offer less and charge almost double.

DH and I spoiled ourselves by going on DCL too many times by ourselves. WE LOVE DCL....but with our growing brood, and DCL price increases, we will certainly explore RCCL for our future cruising vacations. Nothing will "replace" DCL, but it is now going to be saved for "special occasion" vacations, rather than just a yearly trip....we love them too much to say we had our last cruise with them! I am hoping our next DCL cruise will be on the "DISunplugged Annual Podcast Cruise" though! Again, just a thought Pete and John....please don't let this Podcast Cruise be the last!

I am also considering RCL for future cruises. I just booked my parents on a RCL transatlantic and it was $2000 less and they are in a junior suite instead of cat 7 on DCL. I have to say I am a little nervous about sending them because I don't know anything about RCL. I don't know the ins and outs like DCL.

John, have you guys considering having a RCL forum? I have tired to read cruisecritic, but I find it intimidating. I think I am just more comfortable here on the DIS.

I have brought up the idea of an RCCL forum with Pete and he is considering it(or maybe one to encompass all other cruiselines to start with).

Please don't be nervous about sending your folks on an RCCL cruise. Kevin and I cruise with them a lot and they are great ships, great crew and very safe. If your parents take the same common sense precautions they would on any vacation they will have a fun time with no worries.

the first message board I found was Cruise Critic, and then here and I found THIS one intimidating at first! Don't chat much on the RCL board there, but are really comfortable on the Carnival boards!!

We just booked a Western Carrib on Carnival Dream for last week in Feb next year. less than $2910.00. for four (DD is considered and adult then at 13 :lmao:) The same cruise same week, same cabin on Disney?? $10,547.00:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

As DH says for that money it better come with all my drinks and a "Happy Ending"!

No Disney cruise for us!

Karen

I DID want to go to Northern Europe on Disney but I REFUSE to pay $6800 for 1 person to cruise in the worst cabin on the ship. Most other cruiselines inside cabins were pricing at $3500 to $4200 for a solo. Huge difference. I enjoy DCL but I enjoyed RCCL just as much. Yes, it is different than Disney, but that is okay. Many of the newer RCCL ships offer fun experiences that you can't get on Disney. IMO,

DCL and RCCL ships were both clean
The food quality was about the same on both cruiselines
Customer service was equal or to Disney's on my 2 RCCL cruises
RCCL had more shore excursions to choose from
Disney had MUCH BETTER stage shows.
RCCL had more daily activities than DCL
RCCL had a MUCH bigger buffet with more food options
The food and service at RCCL specialty restaurants was far superior to DCL specialty restaurant.

These, of course, were my experiences.

Next year I am trying a Celebrity cruise. I'm sure I will enjoy it. It will be different than DCL and RCCL, but it is a cruise vacation with great ports, on a brand new ship, At a more fair price than Disney is currently charging.

I will try Disney's new ships when they come out. Whether or not I sale on them again will be determined by the price.

I think you will love the Carnival Dream, she looks like a great ship. I would like to try her sometime. I think the Carnival Dream is going to give Disney some good competition when she comes to Port Canaveral. Definately a change for Carnival.

Thanks John. I would feel bad asking questions on the DCL board here. My parents and common sense do not always go together. :rotfl2: I figure it is a 14 day cruise and there are only a couple of stops. Hopefully they can't get in too much trouble. I went on a cruise with them in college and we were one of those groups people screaming for them to hold the boat. If it wasn't for me we would have seen the boat pulling away.

I do look at their boards and they are good. I am just used to the format on this board I guess.

Great deal. Isn't the Dream a new ship? Those water parks look pretty cool.

when we cruise on her....It will be her 19th sailing. Should still have that "new ship smell"!!

We are very excited as we love to cruise, but I'm a Disney Freak and passed that gene onto my kids. DH has been out-voted the past two years and we've been "mouse-trapped" as he puts it!:lmao:

I'm actually considering doing the NYC cruise to nowhere that November. Got family in Albany and can drop the kids off and take the train down from there!

Kids would be miffed! Ah, though, what are parents for?:rotfl2:

We've done both Carnival and Royal and stayed in suites. Both are good lines. Royal is better, Carnival is good, Disney is the best.

I started this "Pete" Rant because DCL keeps raising the prices and really doesn't gived the loyals anything new. Menus hardly ever change, same deal with the shows.

My DD has been going to the kids clubs since she's been 2, she'll be 7 this year. Even the activities in the clubs haven't changed much over the years.

We do to WDW for a week before DCL, it does save on airfare 1 trip, 2 destinations.

Please Mickey Mouse hear us... lower the price!

They've already started with some discounts for the earlier Med cruises (if you book onboard...) but Disney's gonna have to change their prices because if this economic crap doesn't improve by next year... they're going to have alot of cancellations... alot of people made ressies knowing that they could cancel before final payment is due and from talking to alot of my friends who have cruised DCL for along time - they are looking elsewhere for the same ports...

For us...we're doing the repositioning cruise EB to Europe... Can't beat the prices..

DH has promised me a Alaska Cruise for my 50th.. That's in a few more years and I will probably book RC for that cause if Disney does Alaska I am sure it will be 10K+ for the two of us

Maybe this will come across and flippant (it's not meant to be) but DCL owes us nothing and we owe them nothing.

They have the right to raise their prices as much as the market will bear and we have the choice to either pay those prices or go with another cruise line.

DCL is not a monopoly. Yes, it has things that other cruise lines don't have. BUT, the same is true with the other cruise lines. One thing that all the other cruise lines have that Disney does not are casinos. That could be a plus (for me it's not since I don't gamble and I avoid the on board casinos).

Eventually, DCL will find their "sweet spot" when it comes to pricing.

Given that there are non Disney boards eg Universal etc this would seem a natural progressing :)

I'm doing RC this summer for Alaska because my mom is 77 and wants to do it while she is healthy.

For one week - a balcony room with air and a 2 day Denali land tour is coming out to about what DCL is... I still haven't added on my 3 days in Vancouver though...
