Enhancements coming to the Disney Magic in 2018

Has anyone actually seen an official statement that this is replacing Cariocas? I know various blogs and tweets are saying as such, but none of the actual announcements say that. Isn't it also possible it could be replacing Lumiere's, since this new restaurant has a very clear royal theme?

Carioca's will be unavailable during your sailing as the area is being refurbished. During this time, Cabanas, our casual dining restaurant located on Deck 9, aft, will come to life with enhanced entertainment nightly as one of the evening dining experiences. There will be two open seating periods in Cabanas that coincide with main and second dinner seating times for our guests to enjoy.

Well that certainly settles that, haha, thanks! Is that for a cruise before the dry dock? How far before the dry dock are they closing Cariocas?

Disney Cruise Line confirmed the Disney Magic’s 2018 dry dock today and revealed a summary of the new spaces and new experiences. Capitalizing on the success of the Tiana’s Place, the Disney Magic will return from dry dock with a Tangled-themed family restaurant in place of the short lived Carioca’s. New spaces for teens and a redesigned Cove Cafe are also planned.

Is that good enough for you?

That quote is from the dcl blog, which while an awesome site, is still not official. None of the actual press releases had confirmed what it was replacing. The above message for someone sailing on a different cruise does seem to do that now, though.

I also just received an email from DCL saying that Cariocas will be unavailable on our February sailing aboard the magic out of Miami. The email says to go to Cabanas during our cruise. I'm excited for this change and cannot wait to sail the Magic in November out of NYC, but not happy to be losing one of three MDR on the February cruise.

Bummed to be missing the new restaurant by mere weeks. :( Will just have to re-book another cruise I guess. *twisting my arm*

So now we know for sure (I hope that's enough info...)

I'm sorry for the people who are losing a dining room, although I guess it makes sense since the dry dock is short for this big of a change. I do hope that they do a nice job and that the new dining room is great.

Tianna's place on the Wonder is absolutely incredible, so it makes sense that they want to extend that to Magic, but also have a different concept. I would imagine we will see this happen across the fleet, Fantasy will probably get an Aladdin themed restaurant and Dream will probably go Beauty and the Beast, but both of those are just guesses.

Ooooh, THRILLED about the Tangled restaurant. I wonder what (if any) part of the Oceaneer Club is being axed for the Disney Junior area. My daughter loves Pixie Hollow so I'm hoping it isn't that one!

How exciting!

We hope to sail on the Magic in May 2018 so hopefully Rapunzel's Royal Table is open and running smoothly by then.

I’m excited about the changes. I can’t wait to see sketches. We will get to explore it all next summer! I thought Tiana’s was a lot of fun, and this seems like a nice signature addition to the Magic.

I was actually thinking the exact same thing. I hope they continue the same theming with the 3 new ships. Now I just have to figure out when we can get on the Magic again!

Its the mickey mouse room. But I did hear months ago they Pixie Hollow was going too....

At the time, the information was unclear and not confirmed. That has since changed and the articles have been updated/amended. I'm not sure why you're so intent on proving a point, but whatever. We now know for sure that Cariocas is closing.

Well, I was kind of surprised you were quoting and questioning me, when I didn't start the thread, all I did was comment.

Maybe I'm confused, but I think Vibe on the Magic already has the juice bar, loft feel, etc. How are they changing it?

I'd rather it replace Lumiere's, but it seems more likely to follow suit of the Wonder and replace Carioca's.

We too loved Tiana's Place. So, I'm sure this will be great. I'm a little sad to see Carioca's go. I liked the Rio theme and Portuguese tile entrance. But this will be a good fit.
