Engraving I-Pod Touch?

I am so out of touch with the real world and just discoverd that Apple will engrave your I-Pod! Way cool! Since two of my son's are getting them for Christmas, and they are identical... no color choice..engraving seems like a good idea. BUT..I can get them about $16 cheaper at Target.com.

Can I get them engraved somewhere else? Could I take them into a Target or Wal-mart and get them engraved? I know these stores used to engrave christmas tree ornaments, I'm assuming they still do.

What can you tell me about engraving I-Pods???

You could probably get an engraver to do it, but I'd guess it would be somewhat more than $16. Apple does it at no charge, right?

As far as I know, there aren't any other companies that will engrave iPods, and certainly not for free (if you want them engraved, the $16 price difference might well disappear). There's a lot of sensitive electronics going on in there, and I wouldn't trust anyone to do it, honestly.
Since they are identical, an engraving helps to make it obvious which is which (though you can also set your own wallpaper), but you could always get them different cases if they would like cases (and if they tend to drop them often, or toss them in a bag for sure).
I always buy at the Apple store at any rate, since that also means I can purchase Apple Care, and I wouldn't go without that. I have a friend who went through three ipods without paying for a single one, since they will replace free if they can't fix it and it's still under Apple Care.

You can buy Apple care even if you don't buy from the store. Also amazon has no sales tax so you can also check there for a good price.

Engraving only apple online will do it for you but it kind of makes a future resale price very low. So if you plan on selling them down the road its not even a good idea. Get them different colored covers and you should be good.

Thanks! I will get them from Apple.com. AND I will look into Apple care. Not sure how it will work for me since I don't live in the USA, but I will read about it.

I am pretty sure that having someone besides Apple engrave them negates the warranty so good choice. It is worth $16 if one of them loses it or they get "mixed up" at school, etc.

I could not be bothered to anyone else do it! I always have Apple do it, then I need not to worry about any damage!!

I have never bought from them but www.macmall.com has free engraving and reduced prices on itouch. I found them when checking into it for a friend.

This is correct. Just last week I tried to have DS's ipod touch engraved by a local store and they told me it would void my warranty with Apple.

MacMall will engrave for free and it does not void the warranty. Paid less there for DW's new one then any other place.
