My fiance' and I got engaged on 2/14/03. Shortly after my engagement ring broke (split on the band). It was covered by the insurance/service plan so we got a replacement. Again in Feb I lost my ring in the swimming pool at our apartments because the band split and I couldn't find the ring anywhere. Because we did not have the ring to have "fixed" they couldn't do anything. We could only afford the same type but cheaper quality diamonds. Now I noticed this new ring is split AGAIN, I've only had it since November... there is a split in the band, and one of the settings is cracked in two places... OMG! I am so depressed over this. What should we do, I think Jewlery store should replace and upgrade it back to original ring... what about you?

<~~~It looks like this, and it has such a special meaning to me... =o(

You may want to try a different ring style.......a different store, too. I'm sorry the ring keeps splitting. That has to be frustrating.

Do you think the store has any responsibility since it's the 3rd time this has happened? It's Helzberg Diamonds.

Sorry about your ring! Hope the litlle girls are well!

Yikes! I can't believe it keeps splitting. Did it come with a warranty? I definitely would ask to speak to the manager of the store or higher if he/she doesn't solve this to your satisfaction.

Yes it does keep splitting, I a mistified myself. I never wear it while cleaning, etc. It's kept clean, I'm not a football player or construction worker or any other job that involves me banging my hands up. Just staying at home with my goddaughters. I emailed the company since they are almost 2 hours away. Hoping for some help.
Thanks, Meandtheguys, they are doing well. Getting ready for school in the Fall... yahoo!

I think that the store has the responsability to fix your current ring. They cannot be held responsible for a ring you cannot produce. You could not even prove that you lost it because it split, because you do not have it to show them. So I think either you should return the ring and try for a different style. Or you should return the ring and wait and save until you can afford a different style.

I'd try a different store, obviously something is wrong with their merchandise.

You should absolutely demand a refund on the current ring. That is shoddy workmanship, and it is obviously a problem with that particular ring. I could be wrong, but I thought that if the structural integrity of the ring is that bad to start off, it will keep happening no matter how much they try to repair it. If they try to get out of giving you a refund, I would stand in the store on a busy Saturday and talk very loudly (so that all the other customers can here) about the horrible quality of this ring.

Once they give you a refund, I would go buy a ring somwhere else.

I know it is fustrating. The original ring cost $500.00+ more than the current one I have. Much better diamond quality. That one split and I noticed it thank god while it was still on, had it fixed, it broke again in the pool and I lost it... now I have the same style but lesser quality diamonds and AGAIN... so even getting my money back I'm still loosing in the deal. But better than nothing at all.

I hate to think that my engagement ring is not going to be the same one he slipped on finger that day. :( I plan on letting them know also how that makes us both feel.

At this point I would be happy with a .25 cent machine ring if it would stay on and not break and would be with me for the rest of my life... ::yes::

I wonder if the problem is your ring size. I used to work in a jewelery store and we often saw stones pop out of rings that were sized too small for the setting to still hold the stones in. Does that make sense? Like if you have very slender fingers, and the ring setting was not designed to bend that much. Or something else we frequently saw were rings that had been "stretched" rather than properly resized (actually adding gold to the band to make it bigger). Might be worth checking with them on how they are adjusting the size of the band.

I'm so sorry you are having all this trouble! I know how special that ring is to you.

I would definetly go and talk to the management at the store. If this is the third time it's split on you, then it's faulty and needs to be replaced.

Sorry to hear about your problem. :( You should check into your home owneres or renters insurance. I know ours (statefarm) coveres $1000 in lost or stolen jewelry automatically. We pay an extra $80 a year to cover all my jewelry, but they will replace it whether it's lost, broke ( lost stone) or stolen. You should check into it. Good luck.
