I posted the following on the community board today:
---------
Hello, I am a regular poster on the community board but I am going underground to post this with a brand new user name.
I don't want someone to accidentally come across this post and spoil a surprise.
We are taking a trip to disneyland soon and my dd's longtime boyfriend intends to propose to my dd during our trip.
He has asked me for any ideas on a good place or setting. I asked him what he had in mind and he said I want it big, really big, lol.
He really doesn't have a clue because he's never been to disneyworld or disneyland but he knows dd adores it and that disney would be the perfect setting for her.
Does anyone have any ideas?
----------

I wasn't really getting any replies but someone did suggest I post this here on the Disneyland board because some of you guys are experts. I hope someone can suggest a couple of ideas.
Does anyone know if disney have any suggestions if he were to call them directly?
I might add that this is our first trip to disneyland. We've been to WDW a couple of times but this is our first trip out west and we are all very excited. Dd's bf hasn't been to any disney park as far as I am aware.

Big? Ah, well, I have no ideas for that. I do hope his girlfriend will like a BIG proposal though, I would have hated it!

A very popular place, though it's small and secluded, is a little courtyard in New Orleans Square with a curved staircase (to nowhere). Very pretty, and I've seen several pictures of man-on-bended-knee there.

I've also read that you can take a tour that gives you a glimpse of Club 33, and if you let the guide know ahead of time, he/she can assist with a proposal while in Club 33 (the little bit you're in it), which can also be very special.

ohhhhhhhhh how about at snow whites grotto? is that what it is called. But where snow hite and the seven swarfs have there statues next to the castle?

If I were to be proposed at disney I would choose:

1: The curved staircase in the New Orleans square mentioned above
2: During lunch at Club 33 (I am dying to go there! lol)
3: On a favorite ride
4: During the firworks in front of the castle
5: At night in front of the castle (they have the photographers there too) you can also contact guest services to let them know what you are planning and they can help you out as well!

You and me both! That's not me at all but in those ways my dd and I are completely different so I have a feeling her bf will please her if he sets something up.

I was wondering if he contacted disney if they would help him come up with some ideas. I'll get him the number of guest services.
The idea of at night in front of the castle would be cool because when dd was younger she would claim she was Princess Aurora (she had a pink, satiny dress she thought made her look like a sleeping beauty). Dd's bf knows all about her love of sleeping beauty as a child so that one might appeal to him.

Dd's bf just called me and asked if I had any ideas yet, lol. Poor thing, he's really nervous about this and yet wants to do it right.
It's a good thing I am certain dd will say yes to his proposal, otherwise I'd have to cancel the trip. No way could I watch him go through all this if I wasn't certain of the outcome!

I was proposed to at the wishing well just to the right of the castle, it was amazing!! Especially since he had a penny ready for me to throw into the wishing well and that was actually my wish---that he would propose soon. Little did I know that ten seconds after I made the wish it would actually come true.

Another proposal story is when a friend of mine had somehow gotten Disney to arrange a special proposal for him by having Mickey hold a pillow with a ring tied to it when they went through Mickey's house, where you meet him at the end. Then he went down on one knee to propose.

Good luck!

I always thought it would be funny to be proposed to in Pirates when the pirates are bidding on the brides.

Maybe it's just me though!

In front of the castle. There are little alcove benches that allow for a smidge of privacy. Definitely have someone take pictures. The wishing well by the castle would be great too. Lunch or dinner at Blue Bayou waterside could also work. Whatever he does, it will be BIG to your daughter. Reassure him...

I have seen someone do a proposal at the entrance to the castle. The man had someone taking pictures of him and his girlfriend. They had the DL photographer take a few pics with his camera (which kind of cleared people out of their way) then he went down on his knee. It looked like the photographer knew what was going to happen, because she kept on snapping pictures. I don't know what kind of "big" proposal your DD's BF is looking for, but they got a large audience and a round of applause when he stood up.

Is there a wishing well there too?

If so, we talked to some folks who got engaged there.

Apparently the guest services folks arranged for them to have 10 minutes or so alone for the proposal.

He pulled out coins for both of them, asked what she wished for, and then said his wish was to spend the rest of his life with her, or something similarly sappy, that of course made her cry.
Then he got down on one knee and presented the ring.

It was timed so that Snow White was just coming back for pictures, so there were some folks there to watch and applaud, but not too many, and no one was allowed to get in the way.

They said the Disney folks had a photographer there to take lots and lots of pictures. I thought that was pretty neat.
Might be nice to have a shot of the fiancee down on one knee... just for sentimental reasons of course. :rolleyes1

They also said the Disney folks escorted them to a couple of the Fantasyland rides that they were able to ride with no wait and with special announcements about their newly engaged status.

I'd definitely contact the folks at Guest services to see if they could offer help or suggestions. Sounds like they can and do help make magic happen.

Good Luck - I hope your future DSIL comes up with something perfect for him and your DD.

Good post (& funny post :thumbsup2 ).

& if guest services can arrange a ride mid day on Peter Pan & Alice with no wait......NOW THAT'S the BIG DEAL.....(that dd's db is looking for). ;)

I was going to suggest this too!

I would suggest the wedding planner people at Disney. They have the horses and Carriage I have seen people use. Absolutey Beautiful. You feel very special. :surfweb:

I just thought I'd let you know that when we were there in November just before the fireworks in front of the castle we saw FOUR proposals. They guys had spoken with a Cast Member earlier and they were able to arrange to propose under the ropes after most or everyone had been kicked out of the roped off area for the fireworks. The guy proposed and then EVERYONE waiting for the fireworks applauded. Now if you ask me that's big. And like I said we saw 4 people do that in one night so the Cast Members would not be unfamiliar with it and I imagine would help to make it work and be magical.

Saw a proposal Tuesday at Billy Hill and the Hillbillies, Billy invited the guy up and did it on stage. totally unexpected.
