I have to have one next month. I'm terrified. It sounds pretty awful to me, and I'm no wimp, but the thought of a tube being shoved down my throat - pardon the pun - gags me.:scared:

You won't even know what is going on. They put something in my IV, and I was out like a light. I was told that I was talking and joking with the nurse during the procedure, but I don't remember anything. I had a sore throat for a few days and had to watch what I ate, but other than that, I wasn't affected at all by the procedure.

Good luck!! :thumbsup2

This is absolutely what usually happens. Unfortunately, what happened for me is the IV tech was incompetent and I was never affected by the drug they tried to administer.

Still, I was fine. I was uncomfortable and I was anxious, but it's all over very quickly.

believe me, i'm the biggest coward. It is nothing. You wake up and feel good.
Now the prep for the colonoscopy, yuck

I've had one. Easy peasy! I was out like a light and had no discomfort whatsoever.

The memory that I most associate with my endoscopy was that it was on September 11, 2001. :sad1: The first plane hit while I was having the procedure done. I must have "heard" everyone talking though because when I "came to" my husband told me what happened and I said, "I know". I guess the twilight drug took a while to wear off because I was drifting in and out all day long. So, all of the news was even more surreal than it would have been if I was fully aware. :sad1:

It is a piece of cake because you are given twilight medicines. The prep before is a little uncomfortable, but the actual procedure is nothing.

I was under general anestehia (sp?) for mine because i was having a colonoscopy at the same time and have a history of panic attacks prior to and after surgery.

My DH has one every year. No big deal. He gets goofy for hours after the endoscopy and I video tape him being a knucklehead. He has people lined up that want to take him every year to see what he'll do afterwards.

Same here!! But, before I go on....I know many many many people who have had them done and don't remember/feel a thing.

Mine was years ago and lets just say, not a happy experience. The thing that ticked me off is that they didn't believe me when I was "trying" to tell them the "drugs" were not taking effect...instead they strapped my arms down to the bed!!

Afterwards in the recovery room, surrounded with a bunch of sleeping patients (like I should have been), my nurses were calling everyone in to "look at me" since I was up and alert and lets just say a little PO'd!!...As they told me....I was an EXTREMELY rare case with this happening.

Since then, I have had 2 epidurals with my 2 kids that didn't take either...so it must be me and pain drugs or something:confused3 :confused3

I don't mean to scare you but this is my experience...I am sure you will be fine....my mom has one done every 6 months for the last many years due to alot of stomach/esophagus problems....doesn't phase her in the least.

Good luck...relax...you will be just fine!

Yup! Thank you, this was me, too.

Still, what I wanted to say, is that even without anesthesia, it wans't that bad.

I have successfully had twilight and it's always been super!

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I told DH he needs to tape me next time.:thumbsup2
He said that they gave me a cup of water after and I wouldn't let go of it.:rotfl2:

Shuuuuuuuut up! No way!???? OMG, you are a glutton for punishment!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

:lmao:

Seriously.....Here is my PSA....;)
I insisted on the colonoscopy because my insurance covered "routine colonoscopy"....since I was going under might as well.:confused3
The doc found a precancerous polyp and had it removed.
She said I was lucky. I have to go every 3yrs and get a colonoscopy now. I am now in high risk for colon cancer.
I am going to be 42.

To end my PSA...go get a colonoscopy if your insurance covers it.

Back to your regular schedule of laughter.:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Wow. I thought you were joking. You really were lucky, that's awesome.

Had one, was knocked out, woke up nice & happy in the recovery area. Didn't feel a thing, don't remember a thing and that was fine with me!
