End scene in “Jungle Cruise”. (Caution: spoiler alert)

Judging from what I am seeing so far about the weekend Box Office, they should have fireworks at the end because it apparently is bombing at the box office.

I presume you mean the movie’s gone over Schweitzer Falls?

Due to how expensive the theater was for us to see Black Widow and plus the indoor mask mandates now active for our area as of last week, we decided to stream Jungle Cruise through Disney+ Premier vs. going to the theater. I believe Disney is going to release the Disney+ streaming numbers along with box office for Jungle Cruise. From what I read it's considered a hit.

This. People are holing up at home again. I didn’t even consider the theater and I would have two weeks ago. Most people I know who’ve seen have streamed it. I thought it was fun. The skipper jokes did not disappoint.

Under performing is the term they are using for the streaming.

People have still not returned to the theaters in my area. I wonder if people will ever return to the theaters? The pandemic may have accelerated their demise by many years.

I don't think you can use the same measures of success as were used pre pandemic.

I have been to 7 or 8 movies this year and Jungle Cruise was by far the fullest. I estimate there were 75 people in the showing I attended. During the pandemic, up until this movie, the most I have been in the theater with could be counted on just my hands.

I enjoyed the movie, liked it a lot more than Pig.

We planned to see it opening day in City Walk since we spent the week in Universal. Once Covid numbers started going back up in the weeks before our trip we skipped it.
Looking forward to streaming it next week or sometime soon.

Wow, 75. Not questioning that number, but they recently (last 5 years or so) rebuilt alot of our theaters and the trend here is multiple small theaters on the same site. Century Theaters.....owned by Cinemark......is brand new and has 14 screens in theaters that seat only 49. My wife worked in the original domed Century theaters that were on the the site, they seated 1,000 each (two domed theaters). Over time they build walls inside to make them two smaller theaters. Yes, theaters are in danger. Regal Theaters closed a lot of locations permanently recently.

This was at a Regal in one of the larger theaters at the location. It has 14 screens, 4 that seat around 500, 4 that seat around 300, and the rest seat around 150.

All the theaters around me were built in the last 10-15 years. They are all similar sized with 14 to 21 screens.

So 75 in a theater that seats 500, way better than the 8 in the theater that seats 300 when we saw Pig.

From the outside it looks abandoned. They have not spent any time or money on the outside landscaping in the past 18 months. Grass is growing up through the asphalt in the parking lot. It looks so sad.

We went to see an I-MAX showing yesterday of the Jungle Cruise at 3:00 pm. The theatre had maybe 70-80 people in attendance. We aren't required to wear mask inside as of yet. The employees and all but maybe 4-5 didn't have face coverings.

It brought in $91B globally it’s opening weekend. For a pandemic era movie, I wouldn’t call that underperforming.

Yeah, but it's not enough for a $300M plus movie unfortunately. It's not a lost cause yet for sure, and when we add streaming business to the mix it may be okay, but it won't be a big hit either.

To the OP, yeah, I thought of Mr. Toad too!

At some point soon it seems like the studios are going to have to start making movies for less. Keep them under $50 million. At least for a few years.
But... but... then they need good scripts which are not depending on big names and special effects... That will put a lot of pressure on the studios to deliver good quality stories! Not sure if they can handle that....

It appears the Rock's two previous films made over $300 million each on opening weekends, but that WAS before the pandemic.
