End of year teachers gifts?

Oh painting a book bag is a GREAT idea!!
Karissa has one aid in particular who would LOVE that idea! Thank you!!!

Today DS gave his teacher a new bag to carry all her stuff in. I had bought a few things to put in...chalk, stickers, a keychain and notepad...No. 1 teacher. :) And a couple other things. When I picked him up today, she couldn't thank me enough for the bag. She said hers is falling apart. And she loves the zipper this one has. ;) Bingo!!

My son's teacher is a mountain climber and will be climbing Mt. McKinley in Alaska this year. Because he (the teacher) is really really wanting to some day climb Mt Everest, I bought him the Special Edition Life Magazine commemorating past climbers of that mountain.:D

In the past I have gotten...(as an educational assistant/assistant director)

flowers, candy, notecards, soap, and other little stuff.

I love the Post it idea !

At my school, each classroom has "room mothers" that collect money from all the parents and then buy one nice thing for the teacher and aide. I usually bake my famous coconut bread to send in with each child to personally thank them for the year.

As a special ed. aide, I mostly appreciate gift certificates to restaurants, since it gives me something special to look forward to, during those non-paycheck summer months!

I am hoping to get the principal & the soccer coaches - all men, gift certificates to a local ice cream stand. We frequently run into the principal there & he has 6 kids. DS#1's class took up a collection - although I have heard they didn't get a very good response. DS#2 I am not sure yet. She has been wonderful. My boys transfered schools in March & DS2 has actually likes school now. That is quite an accomplishment. He is only in 2nd grade but has resisted school since 3 yr old preschool. He indignantly (sp) informed me in Sept that "I never said I wanted to go to school"

We had a successful shopping trip this morning. For K teacher, we got a hand-painted vase and candle holder that matched from some swanky-type artist who does them. For the 1st grade teacher, we bought a hand-painted cruet for olive oil. I think both teachers will love these.

You know, I am a teacher, and I got nothing.

What a shame!:(

Favorite gift of my kid's teachers in past years: Homemade Tollhouse cookies in a pretty (handsome, for male teachers) tin with a big bow on it. I bake them the night before so they are fresh and chewy. If I have the time, I try to do this.

Also, I always keep a running supply of candles, little picture frames, bath items, etc. on hand in case I get tied up near school end and don't have time to really shop around.

Oh, I almost forgot. In the past I have also given a jar of my homemade "Jersey" strawberry jam. I put a piece of calico or paisley print material on top and secure it with a ribbon.
Also made banana bread one year.

I am getting some great ideas here! Last year I gave the kindergarten teacher and aide each a cashier's check, so they could spend it on anything they wanted.

At what age do you stop teacher's gifts? DD12 and 14 are in MS. DD12 has, in addition to a teacher for each subject, a learning support teacher in math. Also, after I found out, another LS teacher offered tutoring in reading/English two days a week and a math teacher offered tutoring after school once a week ..... at NO charge! So my question is can you give gifts to the LS and math teachers and not the other teachers? Thanks for your help.

I am a preschool teacher and I can tell you the best gift I ever recieved was a heartfelt note from the parents of how I had helped their child. I was so moved I actually framed it. I also have a lovely framed photo of a student and I that mom matted and framed displayed in my home. Really a note saying you made a difference is to me the best gift ever. ( I have enought candles to open a store- bath stuff would be nice or note paper though but a personal note the best)

In DD'4s pre-school class the class Mom collected $$$ and bought 4 large pots. (for one teacher and 3 aides) The kids put their handprints on the pots and then the Mom wrote their names. The pots each had bags of potting soil and some gardening tools inside. Also a gift certificate to buy plants.

For DS8's 2nd grade teacher the kids are each doing a scrapbook page and I am helping to put it together. I just made the front page and will make some addittional pages with photos I took throughout the year. The class Mom's collected $$ to help with the scrapbook cost and they will also be giving a gift certificate - but I'm not sure for where.

We will give each childs teacher a gift certificate to a local book store (Barnes & Noble) - probably $25 each since both kids had great teachers. I will get $10 Dunkin Donut gift certificates for the 3 aides in DD's class.

We will also get a DD gc for the bus driver.

DD's pre-k teacher and aide were so wonderful this year. They taught her so much and made a huge impact in her life. They know we go to Disney World often. Dd talkd about it all the time. LOL They both have never been but the assistant is a mickey nut. Anyway, We got them mouse ears with their name, a mickey anklet and a gift card to target.

I did more than usual this year because the teachers were exceptional and I appreciated them.

Throughout the year I wrote cards, notes and letters to the teachers letting them know what a wonderful job they did and thank them for teaching my child. The front office got copies for their files

As a sixth grade teacher, the gifts do not usually come because i am part of a "team" of pretty terrific people! I would also have to echo that a simple note from a parent would be fantastic - we all are committed to making a difference in the lives of the 100 kids on our team, educating them, preparing them for the future, and since we wear so many hats (teaching can male your hair thinner - lol)simply appreciating all that we do is a good feeling.
Since we teach in a large urban middle school, many of our kids need food on the table more than we need material thanks. To all you other teachers, enjoy the summer and thanks for being such an integral part of so many lives!

DD is 12 and in middle school. Her teachers were great this year. She missed about a month of school when she had the infection in her foot. They really helped her catch up on her work and 2 even visited her in the hospital. I know they were very concerned about her.

We got hostas for each of her teachers and attatched a note. It was quite a load to take to the school, but I wanted to give all of them something. It wasn't as much as I normally do, but there were so many of them. I thought this way they would all know that we appreciated them. They can plant them in their yards and think of us for years to come.

What a great idea! I love the Hostas I have in my gardens. Not only do they thrive for years but they multiply. That would really be a great gift! Thanks!
