End of Vacation Blues

As I am a nervous/anxious traveller (whether by air or car), I don't have a tendancy to get the blues until I am long home. Getting over the blues is difficult and just takes time.

When I returned, I enjoyed sharing on the boards and I think it got me thru the blues ... also enjoyed getting back to my kitties.

Not much advice, just sympathy as I think we all suffer it.

I made a vow to not ruin the last day at WDW by being sad and I wasn't though I did make a big sigh when I was making my last purchase at a store on the way out of Epcot. The cashier looked at me funny and I said ... last day ... and I'm a little tired. It is hard to leave "home"! :sad2:

Nothing is worst than the first week after leaving WDW (which is the case for us right now). I'm already thinking when I will be able to sqeeze a trip to WDW again. I got all excited when I read mousesavers.com said WDW is offering free dining already for next summer... But sadly, only for UK residents (for now). Well the Disboards and live365 radio keep me from going crazy.

We go to DTD and buy candy. I love the jellybelly's of all different flavors. Or buy your favorite treat like chocolate. You can eat them all the way home........ :car: It also helps if you have a clean house to come home to. :laundy: :flower3:

As the previous posters stated, we all feel your pain. One thing I have found that helps somewhat is allowing a day at home before going back to work. I can ease into "real" life more slowly and continue to bask in the Disney magic on the first day at home. I also incorporate Disney into my life: travel mugs, ceramic mugs, CDs, jewelry, T-shirts, etc. It helps to continue the magic....but the pain is still there!

We planned Fantasmic (Our fave) for the last night, so it would be something to look forward to. After the show, we sat in the park and took in the quiet in front of the sorcerer's hat. It is a great memory. :wizard:

Good luck and know you are not suffering alone!

This time we're going to see Wishes on our last night there (plane leaves at 9:30 the next morning!). There is something special about standing on mainstreet looking at the castle with the fireworks all around. No other place like it in the world.

Usually when leaving WDW in August I don't mind because we have our December reservation booked & confirmed, so it's something to look forward to. However on August 19th when we checked out of the Contemporary, I was a bit depressed. During my familes 2nd week there I had got sick with a minior throat infection & bascially spent the week in my room doing nothing. I realize no one ever wants to get sick on vacation & at a place like Walt Disney World, however when it happens it just sucks. I was still able to go to Downtown Disney that week on Thursday night & Friday afternoon went to the Magic Kingdom a 2nd time, the difference is I was with some of my friends from the Orlando area, however I had never got to go to Epoct that week like we had planned because we kept putting it off & during the afternoons & evenings when I thought I was feeling better, when I tried to sleep was caughing very bad. So it's like I took 1 step forward & 2 steps back. So when I go back in December I plan to live it up to make up for the week bad 2nd week I had. So until then I feel like I have this void to make up.

In a selfish kind of way I remember walking to our room that first day and seeing others leaving and thinking to myself, nah nah nah nah, we are just starting our trip and you have to leave. Then on our last day as we sat on the bench waiting to board the bus to the airport and others passed us to start their trip I could not stop laughing as I figured others were saying, nah nah nah nah, we get to start our trip.

I do the samething. I notice that a lot of people check out on Sunday's & the Sunday we were there I saw quite a few people checking out. In fact when going down the elevator to the lobby, we saw some people going to board to Magical Express bus & I was thinking nah nah nah nah. Then the morning we checked out & were leaving around 7:30 AM, we saw people getting off the Magical Express bus so I felt the same way you did.

we always spend our last day at magic kingdom. i try to book our flight for as late as possible in the day so we can spend as much time as possible in the park. this year we are having an early breakfast at crystal palace pooh: and then will spend most of the day in the park until having to go back to the resort to get the the magical express bus to the airport :sad2: where i will be sad seeing all the people getting off the plane knowing that they are just starting their trip and i am ending mine.

Hi, my name is Mary Beth and I am a WDWaholic. I share your pain, as does everyone else probably on these boards. My sad time is after we have returned the car and are on the Hertz bus heading for the airport, I always get a little down just thinking about going "back to reality". Ask my DH, I sit on the bus and make this face at him :sad1: Luckily, him and my son feel the same way, so we all can relate. But like some of the other posters said, I try to focus on other things, getting back home to see our dog, enjoying my souvenirs, planning my next trip. Just try to focus on the positive things in your life, and that you are fortunate enough to visit the world as often as you do. I know, it's never quite enough. :sad2:

Our last day of our trip last year we slept in for the only time on our trip, had a nice breakfast and spent some time in DTD before our afternoon flight. It was a nice relaxing day and we really enjoyed it. This year our flight home doesn't leave till 6pm so I think we will probably check out a few resorts and hit DTD before leaving. :woohoo:

We just got back 8/18, and I knew I would be so sad, so, I planned a few days in Vegas next month for just my DH and me, since we did WDW with family and friends. At least its something new to plan , and look forward to. And it keeps me from crying
Next plan, another Disney cruise! :goodvibes

I get the blues too. What really helps is planning my next trip down on the way home, lol! DH laughs at me and thinks I'm crazy when I start talking about what we will do next year when we haven't even finished this vacation. It's the only thing that keeps me from being too sad.

We try to plan a character meal for the last night. We did 1900 park fare this year.

This is why I love going for two weeks. It isn't until about Wednesday of the week we are leaving that I start thinking about going home. This gives me about a week and a half to have nothing but total happy thoughts!! The first week is always the best because I know I still have a full other week.

I have the same problem too and it was really bad this time because we were leaving our Disney Wedding and Disneymoon. I was so upset and down when we had to get back in the car and drive home. After all that wedding planning and a fairy tale wedding...it's hard to believe it's over! My DH and I enjoyed our Resort and had breakfast and did a lot of shopping at the stores...haha! That always helps a little. :) It does help to bring Disney home with you and shopping does heal a broken heart. When we got back...I wanted to get back ASAP! My Mom and I decided to go together to MNSSHP! Just a fun mother, daughter trip and we are so excited!! We are both tight of money because of the wedding, so this works out perfect for us to cut costs. Oh...and I told my DH we had to plan a 1-year anniversary vacation! Well...I knew he didn't want to go back to WDW, so the next best thing....our 1st Disney Cruise!! :sail:

On our last full day we're bound and determined to set foot in all 4 parks. So, that should be fun and tiring! We'll be ending that day with dinner at 'Ohana, Spectromagic and (my favorite) Wishes. I've planned to sleep in the next morning, have a nice late bfast at 1900 Park Fare and then a last ride in the monorail.

(I figure not entering a park on my last day is a good bet.. because having to drag me out screaming would be embarrasing for my family.)

For me, the most depressing part of the whole last day is the Disney Magical Express bus ride back to the airport. They play the "Now it's time to say good-bye..." music from the old Mickey Mouse Club show, and it brings a tear to my eyes every time.

Oh, that would just kill me.
