Hello Everyone! I am booked to stay at ASmo the last week in September. I thought this would be a perfect trip for my DS, who will be 4 in November and was super excited to be able to take advantage of free dining. Now that I have found these boards and have lurked for close to 2 weeks, I am starting to think I made a mistake with the time of year. My son has moderate to severe asthma. Everything I have read about the month of September says it is hot and humid. How hot are we talking? Is the humidity oppressive? DS takes breathing treatments 2x's daily, more depending on the weather (damp and rainy or hot and humid). I do not want to make him sick or take away from the experience for him because DH and I chose the wrong time of year. Can any Northeast people give me the equivalent of what Orlando September ( we are the Sept 24th to October 1st) is in summer months for us? I live just outside of Philadelphia. Thank you for your help!

My DD7 has pretty moderate asthma. Her attacks are brought on by weather changes mostly. We took her 2 years ago in October and she was fine. We did her treatments in the morning and at night and brought her rescue inhaler with us to the parks and she only needed it one time and that was bc she was running around. It is still hot and humid in September, just like summer in the Northeast. HTH :sunny:

My husband has asthma and allergies, and he finds Florida tough all the time! We have gone several times in September, and he has been fine. He usually needs to increase his allergy meds, but his asthma seems to not be too affected. I'm sure some Floridians can help you with the weather, but our experience is that September is usually in the 90's with high humidity. You might just plan to get an early start, take a break to swim or relax in the air conditioning in the afternoon, and return in the evening. My kids do not have asthma, so I don't know how to compare, but my husband has it pretty bad and still does OK as long as he takes his medicine. Hope this helps!

Ok...not to scare you but my DD now age 3 and 3/4 will be 4 6/20 was taken to Celebrations hospital by ambulance on Sept. 18th 2004 for an asthma attack that we couldn't get settled. We live in Harrisburg PA so I know your weather well. We have been going in Dec. where it is cool and not too hot or humid, and we are going in two weeks, it is getting warm there but still isn't too bad yet. When we go we have to give her Orapred (oral/liquid predisone) two days before we leave and 2 days after we get there and the same thing we start it two days before we leave to come back and two days after we get back. On top of that she is on Pulmicort .5 two times a day with her nebulizer. We make it work but find that April/May and Nov/Dec. work best for us. She likes April/May so she can swim...sometimes Nov/Dec is too cold to swim.

Thank you so much for the info. I am in the process of trying to get a portable (battery operated) neb so that I will have it with me at the Parks. Unfortunately, due to work schedules this will be the only time this year that we would be able to go. After reading your experiences, I think I will bring some Orapred with me. DS is also on Pulmicort 2x's a day and albuterol once daily so I was prepared to bring the pharmacy with me, so to speak. I just want to have an idea so I could switch dates (if it had worked out) or know when I was planning our schedules for the time we are there. You have all been very helpful!!!!!

We went in April last year and took a portable neb with us, which worked out great. Even though it wasn't hot and humid, I figured there were all kinds of plants in FL that my daughter hadn't been exposed to before, so we had no idea what she might turn out to be allergic to. We did end up having to give her a couple neb treatments, and the portable was great to have. We rented it from a med. supply company.

I don't know if you know this, but we did it in Epcot last October. You can leave your nebulizer at the First Aid station and when you need to give your child the treatment, you get a nice quiet room with a bed. I would imagine you can do it in all the parks.

As far as September, we haven't been back since 1995 but early October last year was like our August but with more rain. (I'm from NJ).

In case there are any problems and your child needs emergency care: :sad1:

We had to utilize this service on our last trip - dd needed Urgent Care and there is a shuttle that will pick you up (they picked us up from POR) and bring you to the facility and then bring you back. It is a free service.
