End of school gifts

Do you guys buy the teachers anything for the end of school.

Being looking around and seen the greatest thing and cheap

A little bottle of wine i mean one glass size, and £1.50

DD has 3 teachers, so might buy these tomorrow with a small bag of sweets from thorntons.

Do you guys buy anything and if so what

I'm in the wrong profession, it must be like christmas (YES MANDY I SAID CHRISTMAS), at the end of school, i can remember last year, DD was not changing classes so did not buy anything, every kid had something in their hands.

did not happen in my day neither but it seems the norm now.
Both DD's and DS gave their respective teachers yankee burner with tarts wrapped up as gift. Classroom assistants got a scented candle.

I hope they declare them as Local Authorities have very strict rules about gifts

I've been buying gifts for teachers since DD was in nursery (she's 17 now) so it has been around for a while. I was surprised at first but you kind of feel obliged as you don't want your child to go without a gift and feel 'left out'. I got DS's teachers last week from a local gift shop it's a pretty notepad and some tiny handmade toiletries in a lovely cellophane and ribbon wrapper. I was quite impressed as it was only £5 but looks like it cost a lot more. The wine is a great idea. It can be expensive when the children are small and you have to buy for the teacher and a couple of classroom assistants too.

DD, has 1 main teacher and 2 assistants as they are job share, she also attends the breakfast club, so a box of chocs for them to share.

As my two are in mixed age classes I've always had to buy several end of year gifts, ranging from wine, chocs, flowers, smellies.

This year DD is leaving for the big school and as she's had such a good and rewarding time at this school we wanted to buy gifts that meant a bit more. A friend suggested the willow figures which she collects and we found one of a girl with a book called 'love of learning' so I thought that was quite appropriate. It was 8.95 with a 15% discount, so not too bad.

Don't think they do this at big school so I'll only have DS teachers to buy for next time!

Glad I saw this post I had forgotten it was end of school year, I own florist shops, last year I sold over £500 of extra sales for teachers pressies. Will have to stock up. it gets busier every year, I reackon it will take over valentine sales in a few years.

We've bought presents for end of year gifts, including chocolates, flowers, drinks etc (although this was just primary school).

We did this every year when I was at primary school, I think it would be impossible to do it at secondary schools as you have a teacher for each subject, it would cost a fortune!!!

DS is finishing in creche next Tuesday after 3 years because I am going full time in work and he is in Nursery school in themorning. I have got the 'big girls' some chocs to share. Didn't know what else to get as there are so many of them, but wanted to show how much we appreciate how well they have cared for him over the past 3 years.

Have also got a card with nice long message of thanks and I'm sure I will be in tears on Tuesday! Luke is fine about it - he keeps saying I've only got 1 creche day left before we go to see Mickey, but I'm sure when we get home it will sink in that he's not going anymore and he will miss them all.

Simple answer NO - Ashley is in a special needs speech and language class which stays the same year in year out for his 4 years of junior school, there are 2 teachers, 4 teaching assistants and a s & l therapist. I get them xmas presents but not end of year as he'll be with them again in September, might have a re think next July as he will be moving up to senior school. Definitely don't do senior school presents don't even know the teachers and Glen doesn't ask me to get something!

we did this at primary school, the teacher used to get tons of chocolates and bubble bath.
Noticed that they do cards for teachers in clintons now as well.

NEVER did it a sceondary school, you would get laughed at for it and called a teacher pet!

As a teacher I can say that the gifts we recieve really make our day. It doesn't matter how big or small they are.

My favourite gifts this year have been bath bombs from Lush. I've got 6 and counting. Doesn't matter how many I get I'll enjoy each and every one of them. Wrap them up fancy and any teacher will love them. The kids know that I love purple so when they bring purple flowers or toiletries I know they've chosen them themselves and it makes it even more special.

PS. I do find it a bit disturbing taking alcohol as a gift from kids.

Oh and Wideyes, I'm the deputy head of a huge secondary school and yes the kids still bring the staff they get on well with gifts. Usually it's the form tutor but I get gifts from all manner of kids. This week I got a box of choccies from a girl who I'd looked after when she sprained her wrist in OCTOBER and a bath bomb from a Year 11 child I'd been the progress mentor to. Kids have long memories when they want to.

My girls sent their teachers choccies, flowers and smellies when they were in Infant and Junior schools. Now that they are in Secondary school, they would be horrified if I made them take presents in for their teachers (How uncool would that look ?? )

I bought the gifts today, we bought a small bottle of frexinet (i think that is how you spell it, they are upstairs wrapped up).

With some thorntons chocs, a small bag with 8 summer chocs in.

I remember at one school where I did teaching practise (I didn't teach after Uni but that's another story!) some of the kids bought me gifts. One in particular was a ballerina ornament that probably came from a £1 but it was lovely because the child had chosen it herself. I still have it somewhere!

Molly is leaving preschool but it has been unsettled with staff changes - I asked her if there was a teacher she wanted to buy something for and she mentioned one. She has made her a card and I'll wrap up some bubble bath (I stock up on the gift packs in the Christmas sales and redistribute accordingly)

I was going to buy Lucys 2 teachers the summer collection from Thortons but when we went to the trafford centre yesterday tehy told me they are the biggest store around and they haven't done them. I ended up getting 2 packets of tea light candles on the way back to the car. We were walking through selfridges and they just jumped out at me. They are decorated with butterflys on and very pretty. £3.95 each for a pack of 6 but they are so pretty.

I wish - I received lots of pressies 10 years ago at my first Teaching post in hertfordshire.
I now teach in inner -city Leicester Primary and am lucky to get a thankyou,

We went into the shop and i noticed that they did not have them packaged up, i went to the counter to ask about them, she only did them loose, so i choose 4 of them, but got 2 of each for £2.20, they are my favourite so i had to get a bag too
