Anyone taken a cruise end of August in Bahamas? If so, what was it like? We're looking at a 4 night one before our kids go back to school but am hesitating due to the time of year. Were waters rough? Was it raining or sunny on sea/port days? Are we being silly to even consider it? Our alternative is a land vacation, but I know our kids would love a cruise so much more.

It's prime hurricane season, so make sure you fully insure your cruise, flights & hotel stay so that a cancellation won't be a big financial loss. That is the one time of year I really recommend booking the flights & hotel via Disney, and using Disney's insurance, so that if the cruise is cancelled or changed by Disney at the last-minute due to weather, there will be no cost to you, & your flights/hotel will be rescheduled by them, not you scrambling to do it at the last minute.

We just cruised this past August on the Dream. The waters were great. The temps were very warm/ sunny the whole time, but I like that....DH doesn't so... to each his own on that. We were fortunate to not have hurricane trouble, but like the PP said, fully insure, because there's just no telling. We really enjoyed that cruise at that time of year. I would never discourage cruising at that time of year, but ...like always...some things are beyond the ability to predict. Enjoy whatever you decide to do!

Good to hear you had a gre experience in August. I'm like you and like the heat..eso especially if you'll be spending your day by the pool or Beach.
Yes, definitely insurance is a must.

We did a 4 day Dream cruise at the end of August 2016. The water was warm and the seas were great. The humidity was a KILLER though. And I am from the south, so it is not like I am not used to humidity. We decided we would never cruise that time of year again. It was miserable trying to walk around Nassau. And the heat on deck burned your feet when walking around the pool.

Warmth on a cruise seems like a bonus. Last time we cruised it was April. Our beach days were lovely, but I found it a little chilly at the pool with the ship breeze (but I'm always cold so guess I'm odd like that). But never thought about when you're not in the water. Even if we go to Junkanoo beach in nassau, sounds like we're best to grab a cab instead of walking.

Did you get any rain? Or was it just hot and humid.

We have done it a few times and it has always been very nice. We would definitely do it again.

Thank you...good to hear positive comments. The ships sail year round so people must cruise at that time.

We are also sailing around that time this year and I was just wondering is it unbearably hot where you can’t even sit for example at Port Canaveral and eat at cabana outside on embarkation day? I would also assume that you’re risking afternoon thunderstorms? And how was the water is it too warm to enjoy? My only concern is if it’s too hot and humid that we cannot enjoy the outside part of the boat. Is it only bad when the boat is docked in there’s no wind or do the ocean winds cool things off while the boat is sailing

We've sailed on DCL twice in August and it was fine. As others have said, it is hurricane season so make sure you purchase an insurance policy!

We sailed only once in August and never again.
We were in WDW over my 40th b-day (many years ago) in November so my wife insisted we take a cruise over her 40th, in late August. Tried to persuade her to pick another "cool" destination but she really wanted to go on a DCL cruise so we did. We got there between two hurricanes and you could see the damage done from the air and on the ground. We stayed at the Poly and WDW did a great job cleaning up.

During the CC day we signed up for the Nature walk and Kayak excursion. They gave everybody a water bottle and mentioned that along the walk there will be water stations to refill them and they stressed a lot to drink water, lots and lots of water. We finished the hiking portion did the kayaking and had to walk all the way back after it was done. I drank lots and lots of water but felt overheated. We decided to try snorkeling thinking being in the water would help. It didn't!!!
I had to get back to the ship into air conditioning or I knew I would be in trouble. That was my experience, my wife and at that time young son did fine.

But even my wife said when we got back that it was too hot and she will not do summer again.

Sounds like mixed reviews and opinions. Wish final payment was a week before so we could get a feel of how things were going in terms of the weather....rather than back in June.

Heat was mentioned but not sure if anyone commented on general rain. Do you get daily rain storms or it more heat (assuming you didn't encounter any hurricane)?

It's the summer in the tropics! Weather is HOT and HUMID and TROPICAL! It's always a gamble either way.

It's the summer in the tropics! Weather is HOT and HUMID and TROPICAL! You have to accept the simple facts here. Sure it might rain! It rains most every day in Florida in the summertime. It also clears up. Sometimes it doesn't rain. If you are so worried about weather it seems you should decide on another time frame. Otherwise, accept it and make the best of it... which by the way is just like any other month. It's always a gamble.

Thanks...will definitely follow this and if we decide to go on the cruise, then will accept an not be disappointed if we get rain and will expect humidity. We actually have a cruise booked already for March of next year so if we go with the land vacation in August, it's not total disappointment. The cruise was a good price so we just booked it and have until June to cancel it. It's just a nice opportunity to fit in another mini-cruise, so just wanted an idea of others experiences.

Or you can say a cruise in the rain is better than working ;) I am also a sun freak so i get dissappointed if its not nice too. Unfortunately it's always a possibility. The captain does try to sail in open sunny skies if possible.

Did Harmony at end of August last year and while it rained in Fort Lauderdale in the days before the cruise, it was fine afterwards. Going on Allure at end of August this year and I'm expecting about the same.

Meanwhile, when I did Fantasy in Oct 2015 it rained during 2 port days (Cozumel and Falmouth) and one sea day. Multiple rain days are no bueno.

So sounds like you are looking at same timeframe. We've been on Allure and loved it! Harmony looks awesome too. The August cruise we have booked is actually Royal (but smaller ship that is getting refurbished) and not Disney, but it didn't matter for this discussion. So hopefully we would good luck weather like you did...lol.

Can anyone comment if it’s miserably hot on the upperdecks while docked? Example we plan on embarking eating at cabanas. I believe there is indoor and out seating. Will noon outside be miserable on Aug?
