Hi,
I tried to do a search on this but it was disabled. In the south a lot of the schools start back early to mid August. Do you think this will make the parks any better the last week or two? We are thinking of doing a short trip then, can you help?
Steph

A few of our WDW visits have been in late august. I would say that the crowds are more manageable than during the previous summer weeks. After Labor Day of course, you pretty much have the place to yourself!

Any thoughts on the 12-21? Have the local schools gone back yet? Just considering a trip and wondering what I might be getting into!:D

Hey...that's our time frame!!! Oh, it's terrible then...very crowed, horribly rainy..oh, you shouldn't go then. No, horrible time to go.
Just kidding. Trying to keep most of you people away. But, seriously, it isn't too bad then. Last year it was more crowded than I thought it would be but a lot of people made last minute trips down in order to take advantage of the FTP. But, most of the southern schools are back in session then. But, and this is a biggie....the thunder/lighning storms can be incredible. Huge amounts of rain last August for that week. I mean, 3" puddles everywhere. We got soaked. And it rained, from Tuesday to Friday, every day from 3ish to park closing. It would let up for a bit and then start all over again. I've never seen that much rain. But, it was warm rain, so we dealt with it. We tried to do as much as possible in the early part of the day just in case it got too stormy later on. That worked for us. And since we're going back on 8/13, I guess it wasn't all that bad.

We went last August also, and had rain and those thunderstorms, I look at all of our pictures and in most of them from the parks we are soaked. On our first day there we went to MK and it started thundering and lightning really bad, they closed the train that goes around the park, and everyone was running and screaming, some poor man was running and next thing I knew he was on the ground sliding into me like he was sliding into third base. He looks up at me from the ground and says sorry ma'am, I felt so sorry for him. I ended up with a bruised leg,
and of course the kids thought it was pretty funny!

We're going to WDW for our honeymoon August 25-Sept. 1st. Hopefully it's not QUITE so rainy! I can deal with a bit of rain (in fact, I'm expecting it!), but it would suck if it poured for our whole honeymoon. At least the crowds should be manageable while we're there.

There is a noticeable difference between the 2nd & 3rd weeks, in my experience. The closer to the end of Aug, the better. We did Aug 2001 & had afternoon thunderstorms (some pretty intense ones too) but were lucky that they lasted an hour or so & moved on....
I loved our Aug trip. Love those long hours, love the heat, everything (I know, I'm nuts to enjoy that heat, but I love it - must come from being in Western NY too long, lol)
