My family & I will be staying in a beach house in Encinitas during the month of July. My dh & I have two little ones, ages 2 and 4 years old. I am looking for any ideas or suggestions to keep everyone busy. What do the locals do to have fun in & around Encinitas? best beach? farmer's markets? cafes? shopping? parks? We already bought a two-day hooper to DL and will also be going to Legoland.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Any trip to the San Diego area needs a trip to the San Diego Zoo an/or the Wild Animal park (WAP)

and of course, Sea World!

Are you going to be in time for the Del Mar fair?

it ends July 5th!

Thanks for responding! We will miss the DelMar fair. We arrive on July 10th. Is there anything else to do in Del Mar during the month of July?

Hmm, most people stay away from del mar, the city. it is the only one that enforces its parking meters ALL days of the year!!! and you WILL get a ticket if you are one minute over!!!

there are several web sites that have touristy events listed and things to do, you can spend days doing stuff, or go hang out at the beach if you like sand! take a surfing lesson! They even have some for little kids, give them bragging rights when they go home!

These are Encinitas/Carlsbad Specific -

Coffee: Panikin Coffe House on 101 just south of Leucadia BLVD., Swamis cafe, St. Tropez - in the Lumberyard - a small mall to buy boutique things and food/etc.

Farmer's Market: Saturday mornings on N. Vulcan and Union St. See the Elementary School field. Just east of the train tracks. This is south of Leucadia Blvd.

Parks: Quail botanical Gardens - pricey but some fun stuff there. Legoland: as you know - might be good for the 4 y-old, but 2 y-old...not as much stuff to do there.

Beachs: Gardenview, Swamis, Moonlight - all are great. have showers to hose of feet and gear when off the sand.

Shopping: Carlsbad Outlet Mall is 10 mins. north to buy clothing/etc. Surf shops: Hansens is good but pricey. The Forum: boutique mall east on Leucadia about 3 miles from beach. or just walk the 101 in oldtown Encinitas - people watch and eat at some of the local eateries.

Sorry so late in the month... just saw this. Enjoy your stay in my hometown!
