Today it was announced on the Disney Parks blog that Enchanted Tiki Room (no "the") will be returning to MK later this year. I'm not sure if "returning" is the right word because it said the new one will be "reminisent" of the old one. I would post a link, but I'm not ssure how. I apologize if this has been posted, but I haven't seen it here!:cool1:

Very Excited! Under New Management was a terrible "upgrade", IMO...

I'm wondering if they will build in the "fire" into the story line, so it would follow along with the original story line, but add an element of "being reborn after the fire" type thing.

I hope "reminisent" means reminisent of the original. I, too, disliked Under New Management. I found it a little obnoxious.

They could add a phoenix to the original birds! ;)

Though we all knew it was coming... hearing it OFFICIALLY now from Disney is "WONDERFUL" news.......

As many of you know for many many years now I have been a constant Cheerleader (Ok Ok maybe I have been a pain in the butt!!!!) for the bringing of the Disneyland version to WDW....many of you have read as to WHY (my earliest Magical memory of WDW was of the Tiki Room in 71/72 and it has always been my favorite Disney show with Jose as my alltime favorite character!) too....

So many people told me I was wasting my time... that Disney would never ever do it.... but this was a personal Dream of mine (and I am sure some of you out there either share this dream or perhaps have some of your own that are similar)... but I followed my heart and always chased my Dream even when some people likely laughed at my posts for so long.... so when they say WDW is the place Where Dream's Come True sometimes they DO!

Thank you to all those at Disney who helped make this happen.... I dont care about all the politics etc that went on behind the scenes...... I am simply greatful and very very appreciative.

That sounds great! Last April I saw the tiki room for the first time, and i'll admit that it wasn't amazing, but wasn't all that bad either. I think the problem for me is that I never had the chance to experience the original, so I had nothing to compare it to. This will be a great experience for me to see a "revised" original tiki room!

I think the whole "Under New Management" thing was in trouble the minute kids stopped seeing Alladin and Lion King. This generation of kids has no connection with those movies. And making fun of the original or earlier adaptations is not going to last long either when you yourself are also outdated. Zazu and Iago are now in need of "New Management". And not only because they have burned to a crisp. If you want to modernize the original just make some 3D sounds in the room or something (kinda like they did to HM). Thankfully the world loves retro. So bring back the original. Oh, and get rid of the scene in TCoP that is no longer futuristic while you're at it.

Not that I am arguing that they should have kept UNM - but to say "kids stopped seeing Aladdin and the Lion King isn't true. Lion King is still very, very popular amongst the under 10 set, and while Aladdin not as much, Jasmine is my DD favorite princess, and she does watch this movie quite a bit. However, one of my big complaints was that they took a show that felt very timeless, and made it feel extremely dated. Not just with using Zazu and Iago, but also very eighties/nineties songs like "Hot, Hot, Hot" and "Conga" (and even "Friend like me"). Again, I was never against them changing the show (though like PuntagordaBob it is ingrained deep into my childhood being) but more against what they actually changed it to.

Anyways, not surprisingly count me among those relieved at the change and beyond amazed that it happened. It is tantamount to Disney admitting it made a mistake in changing it...and big corporations never want to think that anything didn't come out exactly as intended. (I think part of the reason PI is languishing is that the corporation realized they made a mistake getting rid of the nightclubs/CW/AC and they just can't figure out how to recover from that without it being obvious that they made a mistake.)

Anyways, back on topic...I can't wait to see the new/old show. I've told DW to expect we have to see it at least 3 times this next trip.

Is it an admission of a mistake -- or did someone run the numbers and find it would be cheaper to reprogram the birds to the old show than the replace the damaged animatronics?

Just askin' ...

...but I can't wait to see the old show, too, and I hope it's back in operation when I visit at the end of August. I could use the seat and air conditioning, at least.
