Enchanted for 4 yr old?

I've been debating whether or not to take DD(4.5 yrs) to see Enchanted. I figured I had better go ahead and do it in the next day or two if I'm going to. I just wasn't sure if she is old enough to enjoy it. I certainly don't want to waste the money to take her if she isn't. Those of you who have seen it, what do you think? I would appreciate any input. I've heard the evil queen turns into a scary dragon at the end. How scary?

we took all my kids to see it on opening night before Thanksgiving... my kids are 3, 5, and 7. My 3 year old isn't scare of anything, my 5 year old dd is sometimes but didn't seem to care, it's not really scary IMO...

My 4 1/2 was scared of the evil queen but was fine when she turned into the dragon. She sat on my lap for the queen's live action portion of the movie. Go figure

Mine was also more afraid of the evil queen than she was the dragon lol

My dd is 5 1/2 and she LOVES the movie. I'm not sure she really understood the entire plot she just loved watching Giselle and the singing parts. We saw it twice together and she was in my lap both times that the queen turned into the hag.

She is still asking my why Giselle didn't marry the prince lol That entire part of the movie is way over her head. She loves it anyway though.

My parents took my DD back in November...she'll be 5 in January. She seemed to like it and still talks about it when the commercials come on TV. She has always been a movie watcher though.

DH took our DD (4.5) the other day. (We had a free ticket through the Princess Wii game) They had to leave when the evil queen showed up in her "real person form". So for us, it was not a hit. But DD tends to be scared pretty easily.

To the Op I think it depends on how sensitive your child is. My 2 1/2 yo and 4 yo loved it and did not get that scared. On the other hand my 5 yo got frightened, but soon calmed down. It is a great movie I loved it!

My 4.5 year old tends to be a little cautious and nervous but she LOVED and I do mean LOVED the movie! She wants to go see it again and I know we'll be buying the DVD the second it comes out. She got the Enchanted CD and two Enchanted dolls for Christmas. It is a great movie!

My 4 year olds loved it. They both were a little bugged by the live-action scenes with the evil queen, esp when she became a dragon. E was especially freaked out (which I expected from her), so she & I sat on the floor at the back of the theater once the queen was not a cartoon, anymore. She felt much better, that way. Once the queen was dead, we went back to our seats.

I think it depends on your child -- if she gets scared by Bad Guys easily, then be ready for some fear. But I don't think it would ruin the entire movie, IMO.

ETA: E, in spite of her fear, wants a Giselle dress for her BBB day, & just bought a Giselle doll this afternoon. She loved the movie, in spite of the queen. And really, it was only the *live action* sequences with the queen that got to her.

In my opinion, I would say that the queen in this movie is scarier than the other villains b/c she is a "real, live person" as opposed to an animated character. I tried to remind my 4 y/o son that every Disney movie has a bad guy and a good guy and that the good guy always wins in the end, but he was pretty freaked by that queen. He was scared throughout the entire movie and kept asking when it would be over, and he wanted to go home when the evil queen showed up in NY. But after the movie ended, he decided that he really liked it. If I had to do it over, I would not have taken him to see it.

Thanks for all the helpful input. DD also gets scared by Ursula and by Maleficent when she's in evil fairy (is that what she is?) form, but not in dragon form. I know DD would love the animation and singing, etc., but I'm pretty wary of the evil queen. Thanks again for all the help.

IMO, like with so many movies, the trailer on TV showed most of the good parts of the movie! I took DD9 and DS6, and they each took a friend. The boys were bored and ready to leave after an hour. The girls enjoyed it because they like movies and popcorn, but they didn't love it. DS watches Star Wars and things like that and still thought that the evil witch and the dragon were creepy. If I were you I would probably wait until it comes out on video!

My 4.5 yo daughter was bored by the movie. At the halfway point she was fidgety and by 3/4 of the way through she wanted to go home. I convinced her to stay & wait it out, but she said she liked Alvin and the Chipmunks better.

I like to check these reviews before I take DD7 to a movie. The descriptions are great, so you can make a decision before seeing a movie (or tv show, etc.) I like the "caution" yellow light.

My 4 1/2 year old and I have seen it TWICE!!! The dragon part is not very long, and she had no problem with it the second time! The music is fantastic.
