Empty boat on Magic!!

Probably less than they lost every week in 2020.
Ship has to have same care empty or full. So that’s a fixed cost.
But Guest services are different. I’m figuring my family fare covered one employee check for each person I brought. Let’s just say concierge is responsible for the captain and the directors paycheck.
But the advertisement costs…they are going to have to take that one on the chin.

I am guessing it's better to lose less (with some passengers) than more (with zero passengers). I realize ship maintenance & depreciation are fixed costs, but would passenger fares collected at such low numbers be enough to break even on labor, fuel, etc. that otherwise won't be incurred had the ship been anchored. In other words, is DCL better off canceling a particular sailing if there aren't enough passengers.

If DCL canceled a sailing they would have cost of crew to maintain ship that is the same if they have no-customers/customers. They had a full crew during the pandemic early peak not making any money just stuck on the ship. And DCL still had to make crew food, laundry, room lighting/ac/water/internet. So I figured on my trip last week I covered my food cost and paid for 2 employees per person we had in our party. Not a lot of people. But, they can train new employees for the Wish and ramp up customer service with new hires.
So say there’s only 40 people on board, maybe the cost of the live show would be too much? But then the performers might get paid anyway even if they don’t perform so hard to say there. I know they had some doing alternative work to prep the ships for dry-dock. So that gave some employees a little money for a while.

Unless Disney is willing to let go of the crew, they'll be paying all of the crew costs whether or not the ship sails with passengers. These days, it's hard to find good employees since there are so many open jobs. Disney had trouble staffing up when Disney World reopened and they've clearly had some shortages on the cruise ships, too. I don't think that they want to make the problem worse by releasing a bunch of crew members just to save money for 1-2 months until the more popular spring sailings come around.
