Does your employer do anything to try and boost employee morale?

I was thinking about this the other day when the hospital I work at had a health fair for employees. They had everything from free blood pressure screening to 10 minute massages, information on sleep disorders to cholesterol to birth control, free popcorn, bottles of water, apples, pens... it was really nice.

My previous employer ordered pizza for the employees about once every two weeks. She also brought in homemade desserts for us every week or two.

Does your employer do these types of things?

As a preschool director, i would always have little contests among the staff members. We had a Classroom Holiday Decorating contest that was judged by the parents and the winnig class got $20 gift certificate for art supplies. we also had a cntest to see who could get the most free stuff for their classroom (donations, internet freebies, etc.) Our center got lots of stuff! We gave away a totebag for that one.

We also had a staff Christmas party and a staff picnic every year.

My employer does a lot of little things that make it nicer to be at work. They stock our kitchen with coffee, soda and snacks for everyone to enjoy. They give us gift certificates for Thanksgiving and Christmas. They always celebrate our birthdays. Once a year they have a BBQ lunch for everyone. Plus they are always telling us what a great job we do and that alone makes it great to work there. :)

Now the ten minute massages I would love to have, but I don't want to have to change bed pans to get it. LOL ;)

The morale at the hospital I work at is at an all time LOW. Were is the process of trying to hire a new NM this will be the 3rd one in about 4+ years. Each one keeps getting worst than the prev. one.
All prev. NM did was tell us what we were doing wrong never any postive feedback. So your very lucky to have someone that even thinks about bringing food for you and has postive feedback.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed the next one turn out to be a Cinderella and not one of the wicked stepsisters. I really like my job alot its all the adm. garbage that drives me up the wall.

Nope. As a matter of fact, my hospital has, of late, started to take things away, such as shift differentials, and merit raise increases. They are actually lowering morale, much to everyone's dismay.

The only thing our principal does for morale is lower it. It is never anything possitive only everything we are doing wrong. Morale couldn't get any lower. We are almost afraid to talk to each other for fear he will think we are talking about it. Which we are most of the time. He treats the kids in our school better than his staff.

One of the companies I work for has an interesting bonus. The owner has a condo in St. Lucia, each year one employee gets an extra weeks vacation, the air fare and is allowed to stay in the condo. There are 8 employees so it isn't that often but nice bonus!

How neat, Alex.

I don't have an employer so no perks for me :)

The administration at the hospital I work at has a yearly employee picnic and they try to give us a Christmas bonus as well as keep our wages in line with surrounding hospitals. However,the nursing bigwigs (read no bedside nursing care for 20+ years) have instituted a "more efficient" way of patient care. We are divided into teams with 10-12 acute care patients. Way too many sick people for one RN!This system is not working and people are leaving,which makes the remaining staff even more stressed. Morale is very,very low right now. Patients aren't getting the attention they need and deserve. Our satisfaction survey scores have dropped about 30%,and guess who is getting the heat? You would never know there was a nursing shortage by looking at the way things are run here.

Hmmmm, my DH does the dishes once in a while and gives good back rubs...

And DD and DS draw me the cutest pictures.

Keeps my morale pretty high!::MinnieMo

I'm in PC Tech support for a big finance company and despite all the work we have done over the past month with all the bugs on the internet and such we are still treated like dirt. Never any positive feedback. Only negative feedback after a 13 hour shift for something that was really kind of minor.

They used to ask us for nominations for employee of the month but now it's every quarter. One problem, I work third shift from home so my co-workers think all I do is sleep - Ha! If they only knew that I go 36-48 hours with only 4-6 hours of sleep they might sing a different tune. It's not easy working alternate shifts with DH and raising 4 kids and not being appreciated for anything I do.
:(
I'm sorry to gripe. Job insecurities and winter depression are looming overhead. Sounds like a good excuse to get to WDW.

JetMom, you sound like a great employer! I appreciate people like you.

Alex, that is quite an awesome bonus! :eek: wow! :)

nativetxn and FreshTressa :teeth:

Sugarbaby, I thought your employer was sounding pretty good until you got to the nursing" bigwigs" part. I honestly do not understand their way of thinking. If they could just go back to the bedside for a week or two.... {{hugs}}

Michelle, you boss sounds quite alright! I'm just wondering, though, do you have issues with bedpans? ;)

PigletsPal and Disney Doll, ugh... I'm so sorry. I can't understand why employers would treat people the way yours are treating you. I know you truly care about your patients or you wouldn't still be there. I don't understand taking away differential pay and merits... what in the world is going on? {{hugs}}

Megan's Mom and cart-mom, I am so sorry. That is awful. Do they really think treating you that way is a good thing? {{hugs}}

I am in upper management for the company I work for. We have worked hard to implement Morale boosters. We have an employee of the month (assigned parking space, gift certificate), and actually have created a team that has one person from each department on it that is in charge of coming up with monthly events for the rest of the staff (the team changes each quarter so that everyone has an opportunity to be part of it) We have had trivia contests, competitive kinds of competitions, always have costume judging for Halloween, best decorated cubicle for Christmas, a Christmas party, a summer picnic, yearly bonuses, we celebrate every employee's birthday, and give bridal and baby showers. We try very hard to make the office environment be a happy place where people feel comfortable.

I can only speak about healthcare since that's all I know. Morale boosting is a thing of the past. Years ago I worked for a very good nursing home (excellent care, caring employees) It was run by the Methodist church and the President was a minister. On payday he would announce he was going to the bank and would cash our checks for us:eek: Every job since I have seen less and less but expecting more and more from employees.:(

Morale is way low here.....job cuts all the time...never know if you will be out of a job and it just isn't a fun place to work...Oh well, at least I have a job and it pays for my life! :)

I hope someday to have a job that I am passionate about, something I love and find joy in....don't we all! :)

There's one boss where I work (not mine) that can deflat morale quicker than anyone I've ever met.

Just today - we each received a $5 gift certificate to Cold Stone Creamery!! :goodvibes

I work at a Chick Fil A and our boss lets us eat free everyday. About once a week we get doughnuts.
About once a month or every two weeks he goes to Walmart and buys all kinds of lucn meat, bread and chesse so we dont have to eat chicken everyday,
He has set up a 401K and puts in money once a year.
We get a paid vacation. Im only writing this, because you dont usally find these perks at fast food. He has very little turn-over. Our longest team member has been there 10 years+ and I will be celebrating my 4th year in Jan.
I really am lucky to be working for this boss.

We have a monthly luncheon. Everyone at work is assigned to one of 12 teams and once per year, each time does a theme lunch for the whole company. Team members spend a little money(approx. $10 per each team member) the one time per year, and the company buys the entree. Ultimately, each employee is out $10, but gets a free lunch 11 other times during the year. At the end of the lunch, the boss reads little comment cards that employees fill out about co-workers who have done something extraordinary during the past month. The employee who gets the most positive comments gets $100 and a watch. Once each year, we have an employee of the year from among the 12 semifinalists. That person gets a trip to Vegas, or $1500:D

Wow, Giggles, it sounds as though you have a great group in management! You guys do some nice things for the employees! :)

Krisu, kamgen, and Paperina :( I'm sorry. I do not understand how employers treat employees so poorly and expect the employees to be productive. How do people like that even live with themselves?

Rhonda, now that is my kind of perk! I love ice cream from Cold Stone! How nice of them! :)

mrsdon, Chick Fil A must be a good place to work! I have only heard good things about them. :)

Micca, sounds nice!! :) It's fun to have something like that to look forward to each month!
