Queues got long last August not sure if it's settled down now. We had an express pass and boy was I pleased. This is the lamest, most overhyped attraction of all time IMHO. The penguins were cool. Ride meh.
We were there 4 times the week of July 13th. The park was really crowded. Each day the wait for the penguins was 45 min to an hour (usually an hour). On our last day we finally gave up and waited in line. We did the mild version because the line was shorter. The ride is definitely kind of lame, but the penguin exhibit itself was great.
It's usually anywhere between 40-70 minutes even during non peak times. The best times to ride are at park opening and closing. It's a shame there's no way to see the penguins without having to wait and ride the ride.
I thought it was a horrible excuse for a ride but loved it once we got through and got to view the actual penguins but would never never do more than a walk on again. Did Seaworld think there was some kind of thrill to the occasional spin of your vehicle? Very disappointing that they would make people go through all that instead of just doing a walk through attraction. I love Seaworld but they missed the boat on this one.
We did it last year in July. As soon as the Shamu rocks show was over, we sprinted to the penguins and it was only a ten minute wait. So glad we did not wait two hours as the ride was to short and very disappointing. Not worth all the hype Seaworld was making it out to be. The penguins were cute but that area is very cold.
On a late Mon afternoon recently, the wait was 60 mins. We skipped it. They said we could not bypass the ride and only see the exhibit. That's too bad.
