EMH Schedule Question vs Park Hopping

I am planning a July trip. I have allowed one day to visit each park. I really don't want to buy the park hopping feature, as I think once we got there we would end up staying at the same park all day anyway, but I do plan on taking advantage of the extra evening hours when available. (This means that the EMH schedule in July would then dictate which park we went to which day, etc.) Here is my delimma. I know that if we wanted to sign up for "scuba diving at the epcot" we have to do that several months in advance. So say I booked this for a Tuesday. If we get to Disney World and find out that found out that Epcot is staying open late on Wednesday, then we would be stuck with going to Epcot on Tuesday, not Wednesday. I am thinking that I should just go ahead and pay for park hopping then I won't have to worry about it. What say all you Disney experts! :confused3

Disney changes hours around all the time and there's no telling what day the Epcot EMH will be by July. It makes it tough on us planners...
I just got back from a long weekend trip to Disney and tried out non park hoppers and hated not having the flexibility - and having to tell the kids, no, we can't hop over to another park now. I don't usually stay in the morning EMH park all day, since it tends to get so crowded throughout the day. Plus, if you're up for it, it's nice to be able to close out one park and hop over to the one having EMH at night. Go ahead and buy the park hopping option, you'll be happier that you did!

If you are used to being able to hop, I think not having that luxury would
be tough. It also limits your dining choices. I also find that my kids have very different taste in attractions so to appease everyone, we have to hop.

Instead of Pixie dust I think Disney laid some "EVIL" dust on the new tickets. The marketing department knew exactly what they were doing. They have us "planners" where they want us. Most people think, I have more choices in tickets while the planners realize, if I want choices as far as parks and PS's we had better purchase the hopper option because Disney keeps chaning their minds on times and days. Just like with the telephone companies, choice is not necessarily the best thing. It was much easier with the old tickets to plan.

I'm definitely going to buy the hopper option....also going in july and I am only buying a 4 day MYW so I definitely need to hop with all the crowds :earboy2:

Just knowing that one the 4 days that i will be in the parks I can leave, go to the hotel for a swim and go back to another park during the evenings gives me a certain peace of mind. ::yes::

And this year I am planning on relaxing a bit more and not take my days in the parks as a marathon....

I want to enjoy the rides I choose to do and I won't expect to do all of them...I will be a little bit more selective and really appreciate the attractions me my family chose to do. :wave2:

We were there last month and I went with the non-hopping option because it allowed us to get 6 day tickets for less than what we would have paid for 4 day hoppers. It worked out great with the EMH nights and actually changed the way we do the parks. Instead of Rambo-ing around all day we actually relaxed in the mornings and headed over to the park in the afternoon. It made for a more relaxing trip and DH and I agreed we'll be doing it that way from now on (the kids didn't mind, either ;) ).

To the OP - yes this did in fact happen to us. We got to our resort and some of the previoulsly published EMHs had changed necessitating our changing our itenerary and PSs. A bit of a pain. How important is it to do the scuba diving? If it's very important than I guess I'd just plan to stay at that park that day, regardless. One thing we enjoyed this trip was not sweating the small stuff. :wizard:

Can you help out with a couple of questions please? What was the crowd rating for the time of your visit? Did you got to all of the parks on their EMH (late hours) day? What were the crowds like prior to the EMH? We will be going in early June and will not be visiting the parks on the a.m. EMH but instead had planned on the visiting MK and EPCOT on the day when they have EMH late night. Have gotten differing opinions, avoid the parks that have the early morning or late night hours, avoid the early morning hours park, avoid the park that has the late night hours......you know what I mean. I too thought that I really didn't need the hopper feature and I am still trying to avoid purchasing it. We do have one day left on an old hopper and intend on using it for our last day where we may hop over to MK on it's late night EMH day after visiting one of the other parks.

Two suggestions: (i) Check the reservation / deposit policy for the Epcot program. If it is a 48 hour cancellation policy, you could always double book and cancel one of the as soon as you know the schedule details, or (ii) I note that according to www.allearsnet.com some of the Epcot scuba programs do not require park admission. If this is the case, you can always leave a non-Epcot park and return after the scuba program.

Glad to help if I can. :)

We went in January so it's a lot different than visiting in early June, I'm sure. We did go to all the evening EMH parks that were open. In 2 days we rode RnRC 14 times and ToT 10! We also went to EPCOT and walked on MS (had FPs for TT); WS still closed at 9pm. It was not super crowded early on but it definitely thinned out as the evenings went on (we stayed at EPCOT until midnight and MGM until 10pm). The weather played a factor: at some of the EMH nights people looked downright cold so were leaving the parks because of that. (To us it seemed *balmy* compared to the weather we'd just left in N.E. so we were pretty pleased, LOL). Regardless of the weather, rides were walk on during the big shows (Illuminations, Fantasmic), picked up for about an hour afterward, then thinned out again later. We closed down RnRC pretty much by ourselves one of the nights.

We usually do the EMH morning hours but we only did one this time, AK, and that was kind of a waste because Dinoland was not open then and that's where we planned to start our day (though at 10:30am rode KRR 3 times without getting off). AK day also seemed to be a bit of a dilemma with the no hopping option since it closes early, but we just used that day to eat at Boma and visit the AKL, which was fun in and of itself.

We never made it to MK evening EMH because they'd changed the days and we never got the chance to go on the days we were there.

Only once did we leave the park and come back when we arrived early; otherwise we worked off the EMH schedule and arrived leisurely later on to stay the rest of the day. We also got the MYW dining plan which worked out well, too, with the EMH nights.

Why don't you save your hopper pass for a day you'd like to do two parks, maybe the day you do AK if you want to go elsewhere later on? Have a great trip! :wizard:

Thanks Linda. I suppose I'll wait to hear from the Sring Break crowd to see how the EMH effects the day crowds in the parks. It would be so much easier if I would just break down and pay for the hopper option, $35.00 additional then I could schedule a non-EMH park but would then have the option to jump over to that park for the evening EMH. I just hate giving into the marketing ploys of Disney. I swear they know exactly what we real planners are thinking and they have every anlge covered.

I agree and I think you're right. I haven't seen too many posters who haven't chosen the hopping option. Repeat after me: "I Won't Do It"... :teeth: :rotfl2:
