EMH and Avoiding Cars Land...

So, I plan to avoid Cars Land like the plague when I arrive at DL here in just under a week.

I'm trying to get a rough itenerary built for attractions. I'm going to post that later once it's complete. DL I'm pretty confident with in how to utlize EHE and what to hit when. However... DCA, I'm not so sure.

DCA has changed so much since I was last there 4 years ago, I'm not sure exactly how to use that extra hour, or how many attactions I should plan on hitting in that first 60 minutes.

If you were going to DCA and were avoiding all of Cars land during EMH/EME, which attractions would you hit, and in what order?

Wow, I'm still stuck on why you would go out of your way to avoid Carsland? :confused3 Everything except RSR will should be walk-on, even LFT we walked on first thing in our APEE. After that we left CL and went on TSMM twice. I guess I would have to say to TSMM because that line has no FP and will at least 40 min or more later. And getting a FP to RSR when you have an early entry in to the park doesn't take too long either. If it is the lines you are worried about, there are ways to see CL at least a little without hours of lines.

I wouldn't avoid Carsland if I were you. In a week or so, you should have no problem enjoying the area. Even if you decide you don't want to do RSR, you should ride MJJ and LFT in the morning and check out the beautiful theming.

Like the others, I would not miss CL! It is really well done, and the crowds during EMH aren't bad at all. You can easily ride everything in CL during EMH, and probably more than once.

But, if you insist on avoiding CL . . . you don't even need a plan for the rest of the park, because everyone is at CL during EMH. You can walk on (or close to it) any ride you want during EMH and then for some time after.

Have fun! :)

You guys are sweet :)

Cars is the only Disney movie I have been unable to finish. I had to turn it off because it just wasn't for me. I'm sure Carsland is very well done, and I know it's like stepping into the movie... but for me, the movie just wasn't that special to me.

My sister doesn't really care for little kids, so we want to avoid places where the might be mass hordes of them. I'm pretty sure we'll be avoiding RSR at all costs, but we may try Mater's and Luigi's. My "must dos" for rides are Toy Story MM and Ariels', since Toy Story had just opened on my last visit, and Ariel's was not built at the time.

I'm sure we'll wander Cars Land at some point during the day, maybe just skipping the rides. We're more about the thrill rides, anyway. Tower of Terror and Screamin' were my favorite rides between BOTH parks on my last visit, and since Indy's, Space, AND BTMRR will be down next week when we visit, we're gonna be hitting the thrill rides in DCA quite a bit I think.

Then don't go to Disneyland. It's not like Cars Land has any more kids than a different part of the park.

I would still recommend that you at least ride the Racers if you're into thrill rides. The last part is pretty exhilarating and the indoor portion is perhaps the best audio-animatronics that Disney has come out with to this day.

Now now, no need to get sassy.:rolleyes1 We know DL is a family place and kids will be present. But you're kidding yourself if you say Carsland doesn't appeal more to kiddos than it does to adults.

I'm sure it's comparable to Toontown in DL. There are significantly more kids in TT than anywhere else in the parks every time I've gone there. I expect CL to be the same, which is why we're not making it a priorety.

I don't think that's fair advice. We don't go to certain parts of the parks because of the concentration of small kids and it leaves a huge majority of the parks available. CL may not have more small kids per capita but it's going to have more people, so more small kids by quantity than probably anywhere else in DCA.

I have to admit, I laughed at your comment about staying away from too many little kids. :)

You would be doing yourself a disservice by avoiding Carsland. It is not like Toontown, and I am sure that you will find out that a great many adults like it as much, if not more than the children do.

I saw Cars once, when it was in the movies, before going to Carsland. It just didn't interest me. When I went to Carsland I was very impressed, and really, really liked it.

When I got home and told my adult daughter about it, she asked me if I had seen characters from the movie. I had no idea what she was talking about. She made me watch the movie.

When I saw the movie I realized just what a fantastic job the imagineers did to bring the town to life. The next time I went to Carsland I had a new appreciation of it.

The aesthetics are truly well done, and if you do decide to skip it in the morning, be sure to go there in late afternoon as the sun goes down so you can see when they turn all the neon lights on for a neat experience.

I had EMH this past Tues and didn't do Cars that day, I went on TSMM and TOT. There was a big line to get into the park so I got in around 9:05 or so. I made my way straight over to TSMM and pretty much walked right on. Screamin is right next to it, so you could hit that one up as well. I wasn't sure if LM was open, CMs were standing near the entrance but didn't see anyone on. But if it's open, it's on the way to TSMM and so could pop on and off in no time. I headed over to TOT after that. I cut through Cars Land b/c it was easier than walking back near the front. You go through Bugs and come out right at TOT. I also walked right onto that one as well, w/ about a 5min wait after the movie part at the elevators.

CL is nothing at all like Toontown. I have two kids and I can't even stand Toontown. CL is no different than the rest of the park in terms of concentration of children - in fact, children under 42" can't even ride RSR, so around there you won't have a bunch of really little kids like you do at Toontown.

Obviously you and your sister are aware that there are about a zillion kids at DLR and you're not going to avoid them no matter where you go. I honestly don't think there are any more at CL than anywhere else. I can see wanting to avoid the masses at CL but if you have EMH you won't have to worry about that.

But hey, I wished when I was there that everyone else would want to avoid CL, so if you do, you'll be making someone happy! :)

But you're kidding yourself if you say Carsland doesn't appeal more to kiddos than it does to adults.

I'd have to disagree! Other than the 3 rides, most of Carsland is shops, restaurants, and awesome scenery! I think a lot of adults go there just to see it, because it is such an exact copy of the town from the movie. And, since there is a height requirement for RSR, you won't find a ton of little ones on it! I think Ariel definitely appeals more to kiddos than CL!

To answer your question, we were able to go on Toy Story, Ariel, Mickey's Fun Wheel (swinging) twice, Screamin, and Goofy's Sky School all in the first hour the park was open to the public. I would start at Toy Story & Screamin, and then work your way around the pier area, over to Ariel, and then GRR, and then head over to ToT.

Your logic seems flawed to me. If you guys want to avoid kids I would go ON RSR and AVOID Mater's and Luigi's. M & L are going to draw a lot more kids than RSR which is the "thrill ride" of CL.

Also, you said you want to do Ariel's but it most definitely is going to have lots of kids since there are no restrictions (age or height) on it.

I would agree with pp that CL is nothing like Toontown - which we completely avoid now that we have had our fill of Roger Rabbit.

p.s. Your sis might like the old movie "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" where the Baroness can't stand kids. Of course, the kids win in the end. Nevermind. ;)

Carsland is really nothing like ToonTown. I don't spend much time in ToonTown because most of things in there don't appeal to me as an adult. But I spent tons of time in Carsland on my last trip because it was lots of fun for everyone. They have new and unique food offerings, interesting shopping, rides for the older set (RSR), and an immersive experience that is not only for younger people.

I did not notice a higher concentration of children in that area, in fact there were tons of adults there who were enjoying themselves. Of course, the area was MUCH more busy than the rest of the park.

I think you should give it a try and see what you think. I have a feeling you would be pleasantly surprised. Cars is not my favorite movie by a long shot, in fact I think it is one of the few Disney movies I don't own. But I had a great time in Carsland. And if you end up hating it, you can come back here and tell us all about it. :rotfl:

I loved cars and I'm in my mid thirties. I felt the theme about small towns and small independent businesses disappearing and the overall increased pace of life over the past few decades way way over my kid's heads. Ya Mater is silly and their is a race car that really deeply appeals to kids, but there is a lot more to Cars :) Cars 2, not so much lol.

I LOVED Carsland, and I'm 41! It just puts you in a whole other place... you could be in New Mexico! They did such a wonderful job, of bringing back past road trip's from my childhood.... the buildings you see in the middle on Nowhere! I LOVED it! RSR, was Amazing.... Flo's Diner was Amazing. Sitting there, having dinner overlooking RSR and Ornament Valley... my Gosh, I was in another place!

Nothing like Toontown.... Check it out, you will not be sorry!

We have found since Cars Land and Buena Vista St opened, we are spending more time in DCA than in DL!

Cars Land is very unique. I would really hate for the OP to just rule it out. And Mater's is not to be missed! I almost like it better than RSR!!

Even if you didn't like Cars, Carsland is more of a Route 66 feel so you might like those aspects of it if you think of it that way. :)

Do Ariels later in the day and it will still be walk on.
