Emeril's Tchoup chop o.k. for kids?

Made my ressies for Tchoup chop in June and saw on the Food network last night a one hour show devoted to the new restaurant. It was very interesting and looks great. My question is for those who've gone to the restaurant. Would you say that this is a good pick for our family since we have 3 boys ages 9, 12 & 15. Didn't see that they had a children's menu which our youngest would need. Looked real fancy but didn't know if they'd frown upon kids. And if it's o.k. what would you suggest ordering for a 9 yr. old? Thank you in advance.

That show was excellent, wasn't it.

We have eaten at Tchoup Chop twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. Both times outstanding.

Tchoup Chop is ok for kids...as long as they are well behaved.

The second time we were there...there was a table full of adults and many children....they were letting the kids run wild in the restaurant..play in the pool of lilies...run inbetween tables where people were trying to enjoy there meal. That was annoying to say the least. The servers asked the people to take control, but the adults basically ignored the servers and the kids.

We used to take our teens with us to nice dinners and never had a problem...and if the kids finish their meals..you can always send them right down to the arcade while you enjoy coffee.

If you jump over to the Universal Trip Reports board, there is a
thread called "Tchoup Chop Review". (I'm sorry, I don't know how to post the link to it). On that thread I detailed our lunch at
Tchoup Chop with our DS13 & DS9. The servers were really wonderful with them. They are fairly well behaved, not perfect by any means but they know enough to stay in their seats during the meal. I can't believe that people were letting their kids play in that lovely pool in the middle of the restaurant. I would have been furious and I have two boys! Unless things have changed in the past couple of weeks, they have no children's menu per se.
DS9 had shrimp toast for his entree with some rice. DS13 had the large portion of chicken fried rice. These are appetizers/sides but the servers had no problem bringing them out as entrees.
The service was so wonderful, I'm sure they will find some way to accomodate your kids.

Enjoy.

Thank you to those who replied. I will keep my ressies and hopefully enjoy our meal and experience. Our kids would know better not to act like those others kids did. We didn't let our kids act like that even when they were toddlers. They love to eat out and try different foods. We have one picky eater but I think he'll be o.k.

Whiel they dont' have a kdis menu,I've read often that his other restaurant (in CW) has no problem with fixing a kids item as long as they have the ingredients. I would think that TC would be the same.

If you go for the special tasting menu that's served at the food bar, there will be plenty to see to keep your kids attention.

I've only done it once and there were no kids there but my guess is that the cooks who look after the tasting menu diners would make a fuss over the kids and maybe even do special things to keep them amused.

On the downside, this is a lo-o-ong meal by kids' standards, so they might get antsy.

I was just there with kids (8,8,5,3). We were at the first seating and it is not very kid friendly, but they liked it.

The servers try very hard to only say yes. The kid's got special drinks in tiki type cups (extra charge), but they loved it. The kids menu was cute with many healthy options ($10) including desserts.

Everyone's food was just okay. EXCEPT for my Vintage Chocolate Cake - which was to die for!!!!!

Remember this Tchoup Rule. They will not bring dessert until everyone else is finished and the plates removed. They also serve everyone at the same time using every available waiter.

It was not salty as I have heard. They must have thown their salt shaker away after that bad Orlando Sentinal review.

Thank you to all who replied. I am curious to know why you didn't think the restaurant was "kid friendly". Was it the way the servers talked or acted towards the kids? Also, would you be able to list some of the items on the kids menu. And how much were the tiki cups? Thank you

Hi, kellymonaghan,

This is my first post and unrelated to children...

I was wondering if you could describe your experience with the tasting menu? When I called for ressies yesterday that was the only thing available at my time and I declined. DH is a fairly picky eater and I assumed you eat whatever the chef creates. Is this true? What did you end up eating?

Thanks for any info you have! Thanks!:D
