My sister was informed today by her wedding venue in Key West that her wedding next week must be cancelled due to hurricane damage. They have known his and didn't tell her until today. The dates we are all flying down are Dec3-6. She called Disney Weddings and they said there isn't enough time to plan. Can anyone help us with ideas? Rooms aren't a problem, they just don't feel like there is enough time to pull something together, even though it is a small, small wedding.

Can anyone offer suggestions? Of course this happened the night before Thanksgiving!!!!!

I've heard that disers are the best in the World, who can help me out?

First off I can't believe that they did that to your sister! I can't imagine the stress and panic.

Second, did you call Disney Weddings? It sounds like you did. If they said they can not accomodate here then I'm not sure if there is anything you can do. If they said they were not sure they could pull it together than maybe there is hope. I would get in touch with someone there asap on friday morning.

The problem is Disney wroks through contracts with their weddings. You may try the Swan and Dolphin resorts which are on grounds. I know that brides have gotten married there and they are great.

I wish I could help more, but I am not sure what Disney said to you.

here is a bump up for more help.

Gosh, MinnesotaChill, I am so sorry this is happening to your sister -- yikes!

I can understand why FTW couldn't take on the task with only a week & a half of notice -- with the Thanksgiving holiday, there are bound to be weddings already planned and also some Cast Members on vacation for the holiday.

Here is a Google search for Key West weddings: click here. It will be like finding a needle in the haystack, I am sure, at this late date, but you never know what might be possible until you start calling around.

Also, search the Dis boards. I recently stumbled into a thread about someone who took a Disney cruise, however, they got married in Key West via one of the companies who plan weddings there. I don't remember who they used (or even if they mentioned the specific company), but if you can find the Dis'er who posted about their simple Key West wedding, I bet they'll answer all your questions.

I'm really surprised that Disney Fairy Tale Weddings couldn't help. Try contacting "Just Marry" they plan weddings including at the Swan in the Orlando area. You could also try calling a couple of hotels in Miami to see if that would work.

Would your sister consider getting married at home and then using the vacation as a fun time to share with her family & loved ones? My guess is that it might be hard to find someone to marry her in Florida at the last minute.

If she gets married at home, she still might be able to pull off a wedding reception in Florida during her vacation. She could check into booking a small banquet room at a hotel and having the dinner catered. Or she could check to see if any of the hotels have restaurants that are large enough to handle a group dinner.

I know this won't help much since the poster hasn't posted in a while, however, you could ask the Moderators to send her an e-mail message for you. Hopefully, her e-mail account is still active and she will respond back to you. The poster's name is "wdwfan24" and here are two threads where she mentioned her ceremony in Key West:

Thread # 1
Thread # 2

There probably are other Dis'ers who either have done something similar to wdwfan24 or who have attended such an affair as a guest. Again, try searching the boards.

I don't have much to offer besides another suggestion of who to talk to. While it might see off topic I suggest that you post this over on the cruise board. There are quite a few people over there who are very familiar with Key West.

One person that I suggest you PM is Shirley from The Perfect Gift. She is originally from Key West and while she and her husband are currently located in Cape Canaveral, they still have very close connections with the island and visit regularly. She is always incredibly helpful and often provides cruisers (including me) with pamphlets and such that she gathers during her trips "home."

Shirley's screen name is snelsonbrown. She may be able to at least point you in the right direction.

I am so sorry to hear that happened to your sister. Did DFTW try another venu for your sister like the wedding pavillion? I wish I could be more help but don't know much about this kind of thing. Let us know what happens in the end, and good luck. I hope everything works out for your sister and your family.

im so sorry to hear about your sister, the last minute change has got to be devasting. did her previous venue try to make any alternative arrangements?

i know disney requires 30 days for a custom wedding & it least 14 for an intimate wedding so unfortunatly youre out of luck with dftw.

i would try some other sites in the orlando area though like the swan & dolphin at disney through justmarry. the leu gardens in orlando. a friend of mine got married there, it was affordable & pretty. also check out cypress grove in orlando or one of the area b&bs like town manor in auburndale or the duncan house in mt dora. another idea is checking with an area officiant who has a connection with a local church or the means to have a beach wedding nearby with short notice. also try a general search online for beach/florida weddings one that popped up was barefoot weddings under beachsidebride.com

i really hope everything works out for your sister. best of luck.

I"m surprised that Disney told you they couldn't plan anything. When I was in my sales stages I was told that it could be planned as close as 3 days ahead. I mean, ultimately it's just a big dinner. Perhaps if you eliminate the cake? I do know they plan that weeks ahead...I didn't have a cake because it was so extremely expensive...just choose an alternate dessert? Good Luck!!
