Also, try booking one way flights. The Christmas season is very busy, but Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are fairly light travel days. On Air Canada, I see one-way flights from Calgary to Halifax for $550 or so on December 24th and $389 or so on December 25th, plus taxes.

UPDATE:

I was able to get my wife and her Sister on an Air Canada standby list and they flew out to T.O about 3 Hours ago. From there they are going to try and get to Halifax. Or at least more East!

Had to pay a business class ticket for Air Canada so i hope they still have Bereavement fares like they have listed on there site. One way tickets cost me 3000.00 for both!

I am looking at taking a later flight via WestJet or Air Canada around the 24th! If i can't get out i will be spending Christmas with my two cats and K.D ( Got to Keep it Canada )!

I would like to take everyone who made suggestions and showed there support! My wife comes on here and reads yours posts and it does seem to help her to see the support from fellow Disney people.

I hope everyone Christmas is fun and wonderful and please don't take anyone for granted, give hugs and kisses and enjoy the time you spend together for the rest of this year and the next!

I haven't read the rest of the thread, but only WestJet still offers bereavement flights. Air Canada eliminated them earlier this year or last year (I don't remember).

Air Canada still offers bereavement fares and the specific website page gives the necessary details on how to claim this special airfare.

These special priced tickets are offered on our international routes only. Bereavement fares are not offered for travel within Canada and to/from U.S.

My husband's grandmother took a bad turn in September shortly before he was due to travel to the US for a conference and we were shocked to learn that this was their new policy.

Air Canada has a very nasty habit of changing their policies whenever they please, but that's a whole other thread.

I did a search on the Internet and found that Air Canada ended its domestic and U.S. bereavement fare program in January, 2005. WestJet is the only Canadian airline that offers it.
