I have a Royal 30 cup urn and I'm so confused.

My sister said one tablespoon per cup so that would be 30 tablespoons for 30 cups of water.

But the directions I have say 30 cups = 2 cups of coffee...I measured 30 tablespoons and it's only 1 1/2 cups. I'm afraid the coffee will be weak.

I don't like strong coffee either!

Normally when I make coffee using our regular Mr. Coffee maker, I do one tablespoon per cup (5 oz). My sister said that is what I should follow.

HELP!

What do you do? I hope someone can help! The party is in 2 hours and I'd like to start it in one and half hours!

I think your sister is right but.. Are you using a Tablespoon or a MEASuring Tablespoon. A measuring tablespoon is bigger.

I'd follow the directions that came with the 30cup coffee maker. It may brew differently than a regular coffee maker.

Or, do you have a coffee scoop? 1 scoop per two cups. (Which now that I think about it may be a tablespoon.)

I'd follow the directions...it's easier.

This is what I did (and do in the mornings with my regular coffee maker). I used the spoon that came with the coffee container/jar that I got from Dunkin Donuts.

And today I measured that spoon just to be sure. I scooped up one of those spoons (that I use every morning) and put it into a measuring tablespoon spoon and it fit it perfectly. So they are both tablespoons. I also did it very flat, not heaping.

Last time I used a 30 cup urn I had decided 1.5 cups was good, by measuring tablespoons like you did. Then my brother threw his 2 cents in and I caved and went to 2 cups. I don't drink coffee, but several people told me they sprouted new chest hairs! Nevertheless, the entire urn-ful was cosumed. Some people didn't complain. So I decided next time I do it I'm using 1.75 cups! That's a nice compromise!

Don't worry about it! It's the CAKE that's important, not the coffee!!

I wing it and throw in enough coffee till it "looks right" to me. In my 30 cup pot, that's about 3/4"-1" from the top of the basket.

Did you look on the side of the basket? Some of them have lines for where the coffee goes for how many cups you want to make.
