Emerald club upgrades

I just got an email from National's Emerald club. It stated that as long as you reserve an intermediate car (midsized), you get an automatic upgrade to any car in the emerald section. I called National for further explanaition. They said you can upgrade to any car on the midsized lot, even a convertable. This is at no extra charge.

Sometimes all the Emerald Club row has is mid-sizes, so it's really not an "automatic upgrade".

If you read the what is on the EA thread you will notice that your chances of getting a converible lately or slim (or none) In Orlando you seem to have lots of midsize choices.

This past Easter, we were walking up and down the Emerald Aisle trying to choose a car, and one of the workers told us to go and pick out a "full size" car for the same price. He said the full size had more miles on them, but we could pick one out if we wanted -- which we did!

If you don't have the EA option-for example if you rent from the Dolphin they make you go to the counter to get your keys-won't you get what you reserved even if you are an EC member?
