Embrace The Rain!!!

When I saw the thread title I was expecting complaints about the rain, and being a floridian was going to leave a post about us needing the rain. After reading all the posts, I love the positive response about our rains. Especially now, we have had a major drought with lots of brushfires burning acres and acres and peoples homes. So I was happy to see the happy response about the rain. And you are all great for not leaving the parks and being afraid of getting a little wet. As you have all said, most people leave.

Have sport sandals, will splash!

We *love* doing WDW in the rain; walk-ons galore.

For us it seems a trip is not complete without at least one day of rain. We were at AK last week eating lunch when it started. We finished up our lunch and put on our ponchos and left behind all the others who came to huddle under the pavillion. Over to Rapids for another wet experience and then on to EE which by then it had already started to clear up.

We are prepared for Florida rain :umbrella:

We have the greatest ponchos that reach to our ankles. When we wear them folks stop us to ask where we got them. They pack small and are light. When rain threatens, we carry them in our backpacks. Here's a link to a site where you can buy:

My girls still talk about the time we all got trapped under the overpass section of the walk between EPCOT and MGM, during a nasty thunder/lightning storm. One of the large white globe lights came crashing down into the water while we huddled in the one area that wasn't wet. Luckily, we were all safe and dry, with ponchos. We were also very careful not to be standing in water at any time. After the lightning stopped, we finished our walk to MGM and had to fight our way into the park, as everyone else was leaving... :lmao:

Nothing beats the safari in the rain. The animals love it!

Our best rain-related memory is walking through the World Showcase with our 1 year old DS in a stroller during a huge downpour in September 1998. We put a poncho over the stroller, positioned so just his head poked out. He had a big smile on his face the whole time. Too bad we didn't think to take pictures!

We are going in Sep I bought adroable yellow packable rain slickers for the kids 12.99 each they are coats with zippers and perfect. I can't wait to use them. DisneyShopping.com

My DH first trip to WDW was on his 22nd birthday and it rained all day. We bought the yellow mickey ponchos and made the best of it. A few years ago we stayed at AKL for 10 days and it rained just about everyday. It's Florida and rain is very common during the summer.

I was right there with you that morning! It was POURING for a bit there.. but then the sun came out and the rest of the day was Fabulous! But we were all able to do quite a bit of the park before the crowds started coming in!

I've planned what park we should go to each day. But now I'm wondering if it does rain if I should maybe go to another park to take advantage of the light crowds. For example, if we're at Epcot maybe we should get over to MK. What do you think?

It could be a good idea, the only thing is it might not be raining at MK even if it's pouring at Epcot. If it's a generally rainy day then probably it's raining at both places. But if it's a scattered rain kind of day I wouldn't switch parks. Down here it can be pouring down rain while you're waiting at a red light but across the intersection it's dry as a bone.

I agree! The best night I've had at wDW was when a tropical storm came through. It was pouring rain. In about 3-4 hours I rode almost every "big" ride in the MK without any wait at all.

We went to Downtown Disney that day, and I think everyone else at WDW had the same idea. It was very crowded. Unfortunately it didn't clear up, but we made the best of it and had a pretty good day. We had ponchos and I have a rain cover for the stroller so DS stayed dry! Next time, we will head on to the parks and take advantage of the short lines.

Dang it!!! My secret is out. Only us hardcore Disers would traipse around a theme park in a monsoon :rotfl:

You can pick up ponchos at the Dollar Store too. Obviously, for a buck the quality isn't that great so pick up a couple for each person because they may tear.

I believe it was on Christmas day in 2004, it poured. We went to MK in the morning, and then left at 1 cuz the weather was so bad. It lightened up a little, so we went back around 6:00 p.m. We hopped on the train to go over to toon town, and then walk to space mountain, but when we got to the station by Splash, both my DD and I looked down and there was no one around. We looked at each other, hopped off the train, and ran for splash. Not knowing if it was open or closed, we figured we would check it out.

It was open and no one was there. We rode 6 times, and never got out of the log. They just let us go around over and over again in the same log.

This happened a few years earlier at E-Ride nights as well. It poured and no one was there. We rode Space 7 times, Splash 4, and THunder Mountain 4 times, again, never got out of the train car.

If you have a poncho, and don't care about getting wet or having we feet, rain at Disney is awesome! (unless is is Hurricane Charley, but that is another story lol)

We leave soon and I've already got my ponchos packed. :) We plan on bein in the parks rain or shine! :Pinkbounc

Rain in FL in the summer is a daily occurance we go rain or shine. Rain stopping you is for the weak as my DW says. :thumbsup2

We were also at Disney last Tuesday for the rain....we choose to visit Disney Quest and take the DVC tour...it was a good day for us as well!

We were there too!! Wasn't it great?! It started to get busier later in the day and poor Dd was so upset when they tried to do Cinderellabration and had to stop. I had to explain why Cinderella couldn't come out. A few other girls around us were upset too. It was great thought. There were no lines anywhere except Peter Pan, the usual 40 minutes. Meeting Mickey back in the Judges Tent was great, NO ONE was on the line. :mickeyjum
I always pack the ponchos and never have used them, this was the first trip. I'm so glad we did. Would definitely do it again. We got there around 10-11amd. As it got later, 3-4ish it started to get busier, by that time we did all we had wanted to and left.
