Okay, we leave for WDW 3 weeks from today, and for the past 24 hours I have had the WORST hemroid flare up! I haven't had a problem with hemroids since I gave birth to my firstborn 8 years ago! I was so unprepared-no creams, epsom salt, ice pack, notta! What am I in for? Does anyone have any home remodies or advice for curing them? FAST? How fast do they go away? Will they still be a nusance when it's time to leave for vacation? They are not bleeding, just very painful and uncomfortable!!:scared:

Go to the doctor and see about getting them banded.
Not sure what the recovery time is though, My husband had them frozen and drained before. :scared1: He said they felt better instantly.Good luck!!

You can try over the counter remedies which may help a good bit. An ice pack in the area can also help for short term relief. See your MD (gyn or FP or IM)for effective creams with steroids. Long term care will probably require some sort of procedure if they are big enough...but hopefully the other things will get you through the trip...good luck!!!

I agree with the previous post... call Dr. today and explain situation. They may very well get you in next week for banding of them. It is an outpatient procedure and recovery time is very short...... What a pain in the butt..... Sorry, couldn't resist. Anyway good luck!

They often show up under times of stress, and if your diet is less than ideal. Eat lots of veggies, drink lots of water.

There's also a homeopathic suppository.

Also, walking is good (vs sitting too many hours).

It's so common for that to happen after giving birth and to reoccur later on... as if you don't have enough to deal with! Ask your doctor for a prescription suppository. It sounds gross and painful, but isn't really a big deal, doesn't hurt, and it works. You could also ask about a pill for a stool softner so you aren't in pain in the meantime.

Feeling much better already. (48 hours later)The pain is very tolerable and within a few days, the flare up should be gone. Frequent sitz baths with lots of Epsom salts, Preperation H cream, eating lots of green beans, salads, whole wheat and drinking lots of water seems to be doing the trick. I'll just have to make sure I'm eating better and keeping active these next three weeks so I won't get constipated again before our trip! Thanks for the advice everyone! :thumbsup2

Sit in the tub in the hotest water you can stand. Also when you get to WDW go in the pool as much as possible.

I got them after I had DD. They were excruitiating! I used Prep H, Epsom salt (baths), and Tucks daily and it was helping with the pain, but they weren't healing. So I finally called my OB and he sent over a Rx for Proctosol. Its a cream that you apply 4 times a day. Immediately I felt better. Call first thing on Monday and have him/her get you some too! You might be feeling better now, but you never know when those buggers will show back up!

Glad to hear the dietary stuff is working. You also can buy Docusate Sodium (aka Colace) at the drugstore. It is a stool softener, is really pretty benign, no laxative, just makes the stool softer so that it is easy to pass. And it is usually under $5 for a bottle of the generics. Might be worth having along -- esp if you are going DDP. Not always alot of fiber in those CS meals....

Glad to hear you are feeling better. My BF had them after her daughter was born and she said they were very painful.

Keep up with what works so you can have a wonderful trip!

Tootles,
Glad to hear that you are feeling better.
I had a flare up at Disney before, so I know how you feel.
I only got to see the park one day and the next 6 days, I had to stay in bed.

When I got back home, I went ahead and had the staples put in, believe me, when I say that it was an easy surgery.
I was in and out in one day.
The same day I had the surgery, my favorite aunt died, so I had to call my dr. to see if it was okay, for me to drive in a car for 9 hours to go to the funeral.
He said yes and off I went.
It was the easiest time I ever had after having surgery, the staples are better then the bands.

I can tell you what I took when I had a flare up, if I was out of town, I would take 3 to 4 aleve at one time to reduce the size of the hemorrhoids
And I would sit or lay down in bed; as if I walk they got much bigger.

I would like to say that now that I had them taken care of, I wished I would have had them done years ago, as I waited too long, the dr. told me it would have been easier for him and my self if I would have went years earlier.
So don’t put it off get them taken care of, go ahead and get the surgery, you will be happy afterwards, and no more pain in the butts
Call Dr. today and make sure you have some thing on hand while your at Disney

Okay-here's the thing. I REALLY didn't want to have to go to the doctor's. (and geez-I'm Canadian so it's even covered by our health care system!) Hey, I hate going for any physicals, so this would be, so embarrassing.:scared: Anyways, I have maintained my healthy eating, try to have a bath once a day and only use Preperation-H at bedtime.I am feeling better. They are not huge and painful, yet they haven't gone away completley either. In fact, they now occassionally bleed and it burns a bit. So, I will give myself until Friday. If I don't feel better by Friday morning, I will call my doctor and book an appointment for next week. :thumbsup2 Hopefully, with that only leaving me a week to two to recover before the trip, my doctor will be able to recommend something fast, and painless. :scared1: Thanks to everyone for the advice and coaxing! :rolleyes1

I felt the same way. Call first and see if you can get that cream over the phone. Chances are, if you go in all he/she will do is look at your bum and give you the cream anyway. I think it's a rare thing to have them cauterized, etc. In fact, in my case there was nothing to do - it was just a bulge. Nice. :)

Anyway, call and ask for Protosol and it will start healing today. I promise!

Witch Hazel will help. Soak a cotton makeup pad or thin cloth with it then hold them on the flare up. This constricts the swelling. Also if you can make sure you use a lubricant before a bm. This will help with the stretching and make the skin supple. Hope you feel better.
