What time to they start boarding the ship?

Usually between 11:30 and noon. They start by boarding the family of the day, then Concierge guests, then boarding groups in order, with maybe 2-3 minutes between each group.

you get your boarding group number when you check-in at the port. It is based on your Port Arrival Time, unless your are Platinum.

Randomly by a random CM in the terminal. No real rhyme or reason. I have seen them be all matchy-matchy and I have seen them not match at all. Some with small kids, some with older, one all adult.

There is a random cast member who’s job it is to pick the family of day (and the cast member changes each time). It usually is just interacting with the right person at the right time. As pp said, there’s no rhyme or reason.
