Can anyone please give me some information about the embarkation process in Galveston? We depart in a little less than a month and I just wanted to start getting my mind around the embarkation process. We will be driving in the morning of the cruise (we will only have about a 4 hour drive that morning). How is parking at the port? How is the check in process? Which deck to do enter on (is it through the atrium, or on a different deck like other ports)?

Thanks for any information you can give!

I have sailed out of Galveston twice. We drive to port as well and have never parked at the port, but always park at one of the cruise parking lots across the street. My husband drops off me and the kids and the luggage at the terminal, the luggage gets quickly taken away by a porter, and my husband goes and parks the car while the kids and I wait right outside the terminal for him to catch the shuttle back. We think this is easier than trying to ride the shuttle with 3 kids and tons of luggage (we are not light packers). The terminal is nothing like Port Canaveral so set your expectations low. It is very industrial looking. They do put up a few Disney banners and the staff are super friendly but honestly, it is just an ugly building. It is only 1 story, so you get into a line right after you enter the building and go through security. Then you immediately get into the check-in line. If you are concierge, you really need to look closely for the concierge line because it is hidden way down on the right side. The waiting area is kind of small in my opinion but there is an area to check the kids in for the kids club and the line is usually super long, so we always wait and do it on the ship where there is never a line. There is also a space where a character or 2 will make an appearance. When it is time to board, you walk down a hallway where you can take the embarkation photo and then this is where my memory gets a little fuzzy. I think you ride up an escalator to the gangway, and I'm positive that you enter into the atrium just like at Port Canaveral. I hope this helps!

Thank you so much for the information. I am glad to hear that you enter through the atrium. That was such a nice experience on our last cruise on the Fantasy. I read where in Miami you entered on a higher deck, I believe, and while I am sure that works just fine, it was nice to be able to walk through the atrium right after they announce your family.

Pay close attention to weather. We live in FW and drive also. We had no problems getting to the ship ( we did a reserved spot at a nearby lot) and did fine, returning we were significantly delayed due to fog. The problem was for people coming to be on those ships there is no place for them to park. After our experience, we are going the night before from now on. It's not uncommon to have fog there in the winter months. Just something to consider going forward!

We're in Ft W too and after reading about random road or lane closures in Houston on 45 and construction traffic etc, we are going the night before this time!! 21 days to go till we're on the Wonder! Eeeeekkk!!

Agree. We are sailing day after Thanksgiving and decided to go to the Hotel Gálvez for thanksgiving so we have safe parking there included. It really was kind of sad to see people waiting to get into reserved parking spots. I would drive day of if I had to, but I would have a plan b. There are multiple cruise ships coming in and out so any boat being late could impact your ability to park and get to your boat on time. I don't think fig is as much an issue at PC as in Galveston. Crew seemed to indicate it happens a few times every season in Galveston. Who knew?!

We won't be that far off, and I plan to be in the port area around 11 or so. We should be able to get in without a problem as from everything I can tell the Wonder is the only ship in port that day.

We drove to miami from Orlando morning of embarkation. Not sure where the time went but we barely made the ship. Pulled into the parking lot around 3:30. Never again! The worst was listening to the teenager in the back tell us how irresponsible we were getting there so late.

For our four previous cruises (3 port canaveral & 1 galveston), we have always driven by the port the day before & stayed close by. I wouldn't be comfortable doing it any other way. No way at all could I fly in the day of the cruise. For our March cruise (on Royal) out of Galveston, we are staying at Kemah, which isn't far up the road and even that makes me a little uneasy.

We are on the reposition cruise from Galveston to San Juan in January. we too drive down (from Dallas area) the night before. Texas weather is too bi-polar to risk it

This is the entrance to the terminal. Baggage drop off is immediately right of this picture, 10 steps away.

You walk through the entrance and along a corridor to security.

The security opens up to the check in and waiting area. There are CMs available to help you go into the right check in lane.

The round entrance on the right of the above photo is the kids club check in. The character meet and greet line is to the bottom left of the pic and once they start boarding the entrance to the ship is at the far end. Once you have been called to board, you go around the corner and they do the embarkation photos, it is a bit of a muddle, but similiar to PC. There is one more security check where they swipe your KTTW card and then you go up escalators (also one elevator available) to the gangway, which is glass, so good photo ops.
