I know the next Disney marathon weekend is a year away but I just thought of something.

I read somewhere that the Disney marathon runners have an option of 'subscribing' their friends/fans to email or text updates to get sent to a phone/email/etc. Do these things actually work?

My friend ran the NYC marathon and we all subscribed to his updates. They worked until he hit 10k..lol. Considering he was only 6 miles into his 26, it was a disappointment because we weren't sure about roughly when he was going to run by us at mile 17. Then of course after the whole thing was finished, my phone got bombarded with texts about all his old checkpoints. figures! :rotfl:

So since there are less people running Disney, was just wondering if the texts/msgs actually go through somewhat on time?

Thanks! :)

I gather that there were problems for the 2008 Marathon weekend. However, last weekend my friends and family all got their updates! They knew my chip time before I did!

We signed up three email addresses for the Half this past weekend and it worked perfectly. The emails came in about 60 seconds after the actual crossing of the milestones.

My husband and a friend signed up for email updates for this past weekend's half marathon and it worked perfectly. Like a previous poster, they knew my chip time before I did! :) :thumbsup2

DW ran the half and I ran the full. I saw her cross 2 of the checkpoint mat thingy's and got a text within 30 seconds; usually more like 10 seconds. From that random sample, I'd say they were wonderful.

I signed up for the updates for both the half and the full, and all the people that signed up got them very quickly. I was not expecting that after last year, but they worked great. My family at home knew as soon as I was done and they were on the phone calling me while I was getting my medal! So, they were QUICK!

DH ran the half and I did the full so we signed up for text messages. His updates to me were right on. There was a delay on Sunday and he got my 5 & 10 mile updates at the same time then the rest came thru fine.

I had four people signed up for email updates for both days and everything came through as promised.

The text updates worked perfectly this past weekend! Like someone said previously, my friends back home knew my split times before I did.

That is too cool that they do that. Do they do that for the shorter races too?
