Email Show - Disney Merchandise

I think I should clarify that my Mom does not actually collect old jelly jars.

I used that as an example.

Should any of you run into my mother and I in the parks, I dont want you to feel uncomfortable when you receive a vacant stare should you broach the subject of her fictional jelly jar collection.:thumbsup2

I'm just always surprised that when the subject arises of any sort of luxury purchase (Dooney & Bourke purses, Kindles, iPads, iPods, Disney doodads etc) that there are folks that chime in with the opinion that these things should not be purchased and that the money spent would be better spent in another way....or not spent.

I guess I'm of the belief that it's none of my business how anyone else spends or doesnt spend their money.

This always surprises me too. I always wonder why people feel the need to comment on money that is being spent that isn't theirs? :confused3

I have a friend who collects Coach purses. It's not my thing, but she loves those purses and I always do admire them, sometimes she will tell me I should buy one and I say "I could never spend that much on a purse." and then later when she asks me how I can afford another trip to Disney (while rolling her eyes) I always say "Because I buy cheap purses." :rotfl:

Same here. I live in a fairly affluent suburb of Kansas City and here I feel sometimes that it's all about the car you drive, the size of house you live in, and the labels in your clothes.

Granted, there are a lot of people here that make Disney a big part of their life but the families that go every year and stay concierge at the Grand Floridian marvel at the fact I'm "rich enough" to own DVC. :confused3

I guess I'll keep it that way!!!

I hear ya! We just bought DVC :cool1:, and to pay it off, I've completely given up Ann Taylor and Williams Sonoma. And I love to cook, but our food budget is now canned soup and Mac and Cheese. That Disney addiction is a hungry monster, but it comes first in my book!

Well I'll be disappointed if Disney does do away with all resort merchandise. The only thing I really collect is Disney pins of the resorts I've been to and I've starting buying pins specific to rides as my DS4 first experiences them. But I always brought home plenty of "stuff" and one thing I enjoyed a lot was shopping in the resort gift shops just because of the resort merchandise that I couldn't find elsewhere. The whole junking of Disney merchandise saddens me. I was at Disneyland last month and used to love The China Closet on Main St and had bought lots of glass and ceramic figurines from there, now it's just stocked with junk, the same stuff they have at the Emporium or World of Disney, nothing new or unique. It's such a shame.
