I rented points from a rental company and just received an email from the actual owner of the dvc that I rented. I wasn’t aware he could actually email me directly. Anyway, he said he will be out of the country for a week so if there was anything I wanted to add to my reservation to let him know ahead of time. It got me thinking, what are things he can add? Can I have him put a request for a room location (I know it’s not a definite)? What else does the owner have to do before we check in?
Btw, we are renting a standard studio at poly. What’s the best location to request if we want an opportunity to even get a glimpse of the castle?
Thanks for the help!

If you want, owner would have to add dining plan, room requests, DME Info( you MIGHT be able to do that on your own), and/or add/change/delete guest info.

I can't help with a view request for Poly, but others will probably chime in.

Your owner that you rent from receives your Name, Address, Email Address, and Phone number. They need these things to complete the reservation in your name.

Most Owners that Rent out through an agency have probably been vetted by the agency, at least to some degree, though I am unsure how much. Also, the agencies like to use owners services over and over. If an owner does a good job, they want to do it again. They probably keep some type of list themselves about whether the owner did everything in a courteous, timely manner and without mistakes. I don't know if they survey you, the Renter, so see what you thought about the service.

Most, if not all rental services require the owner to sign a contract. I do not know if they specify anywhere in the contract that the owner is not to contact you 'on the side' or contact you for any reason other than something directly related to the rental. But, I presume they do. And even if they didn't, it would be inappropriate to contact you to sell you Tuppperware or something. (Does Tupperware even still exist?) Anyway, it sounds like the owner contacted you for valid reasons. I know you aren't complaining, but you were surprised.

ANYTHING having to do with your reservation MUST go through the DVC Member that owns those points. Disney will not even talk to you about anything. So, a good owner who is on the ball can be helpful.

The owner can schedule Disney's Magical Express. And help you purchase Disney Dining Plan, Travel Insurance, and can make any special requests you would like. Such as, "3rd Floor at Tokelau, near the elevator, and preferably on the west side of the building and near to the reservation of your friend who is staying in another room. And Bob is having a Birthday, and Carol just came back from a military deployment, so could you please note that."

None of these things are guaranteed, but it doesn't hurt to ask. If you have a lot of requests, a particular building, floor or near family and friends, then I would prioritize them and when the owner calls he should tell member services, "It is most important, if possible to get close to their Relative/Friends room. After that, if possible, they would both like to stay in Tokelau on the 3rd floor near an elevator." Or, whatever. Member services will write these down, along with any special instructions. They will give it a try, to see if they can fulfill them, but it very much depends on who is checking out, where the rooms open up and etc. That being said, I almost always have some type of request like this and I have ALWAYS been able to get my requests. If you are traveling with someone else, and they are staying in a different room then the most important request might be to have Member Services link the two reservations together, even if you are not requesting adjoining rooms. By the way, Poly is full of adjoining/connected rooms, so that one should be fairly easy there.

If you have made special requests, you should do the Online Check In thing, and do it about 5 days before you travel. Because starting about 4 days before you travel, somebody at Disney (quite likely NOT at the resort, so more specific requests can help) goes through the pile of reservations that have checked in,and compares them to the scheduled check-outs and tries to match up as many of your requests as possible. If you check in 3 days in advance, or less, you almost certainly will have lost that opportunity. If you wait until you arrive at the resort to make your special requests of the front desk people, they are VERY limited in what they can do, because they pretty much can only work with whichever rooms have not already been assigned.

Does any of this help?

By the way, at Poly, there are 3 DVC buildings. Pago Pago, Moorea, and Tokelau. Moorea is the only one with Lake View rooms.

Pago Pago has 2 views, Parking Lot and Courtyard/Walkways. It is oriented northeast to southwest, so the east end of the building is nearer the TTC and the west side is nearer to the central area.

Moorea is also similarly oriented, but it is next to the lake, so Poly Lake View are ALL on the north side of Moorea, while the south side looks at the courtyard/walkways. Both Moorea and Pago Pago are farther to the east than Tokelau, so they are, in general, closer to the TTC, but less close to the Central Building and to the Resort Monorail. The DVC Washing Machines are in Moorea.

Tokelau is the building to the west of the two I just mentioned, and it is significantly more central. If air horns from the ferries might bother you, then Tokelau is farthest away, and Moorea is closest to that. Tokelau is also the largest of the three buildings. Tokelau is oriented north to south. The east side of the building looks out to the courtyard that lies between the 3 buildings. The west side looks out towards the secondary pool and, beyond that, the Central building. A lot of people feel that any 3rd floor room in Tokelau is an excellent choice, but the other rooms and buildings are not bad by any means. We always request 3rd floor, Tokelau, but if I wanted to go to the TTC a lot, I would request Standard View at Moorea, and preferably in the east end of the building.

Your only hope for Castle view with a standard view is Tokelau north end. High floor preferable facing towards the west.

Tokelau has a nice, wooden deck and stairway extending out from the north end. Plenty of room there for a number of people. The rooms face east or west, but the stairway and deck on the north has an open view across the lagoon to the Magic Kingdom, and the fireworks at night. It is also close enough to the beach that you can hear the musical program during the fireworks. HOWEVER, on the occasions when I have sat out there to watch the fireworks I have noted a distinct need for bug spray. That being said, bugs/mosquitoes there are probably no worse than for the people who will be watching the fireworks from the beach, nearby.

Yes, that's where I go if we don't get one of the 2 or 3 rooms that has a view of the castle. Oh - and that's been never that I've gotten it but my nephew did when I requested it for them! :rotfl:

There are a few things that need to be done a bit in advance, and if they haven't heard from you - I had my broker contact my renter about two months out from the reservation for the same reason - we'd be out of town when the deadlines hit and unable to make Magical Express/Dining Plan arrangements - and I didn't want my vacation schedule to screw up someone else's vacation. Its thoughtful of the owner to contact you (I did mine through the broker because while I needed my renter's information - they didn't have mine - and I was happiest that way).

I wouldn't worry about room requests, my experience has been that they are usually ignored and our best rooms have come with no request at all (and the worst rooms when we've made requests - perverse, but true - my favorite rooms have been with no requests).

If you are a light sleeper the boats at the TTC sound horns from early in the morning to late at night when they arrive and depart. We had a lake view and could clearly hear them in the room. They did not ruin our stay, but they could for some folks. But as others have stated there are a couple of things the DVC owner can assist. Like adding or removing someone from the reservation, meal plan, and some location requests like upper floor, lower floor they are never guaranteed but sometimes you get it.
