Em has the flu AND Pneumonia!! **Update page 4**

That's the same medicine they gave my daughter Jessica. :D She took 7.5 mls the first day, then 3.5 daily after that. She takes the last dose tonight. The doctor told me you take it for 5 days, but it continues to work for the full 10 days. ::yes:: By my DD's face when she takes it, it doesn't seem to be too pleasant!! :teeth: Worked GREAT though!! :bounce:

Zithormax is AWESOME stuff!!!!! You take for 5 or 6 days (usually it's 2 pills the first day and then one pill the next 4 days) but lasts the whole gammet of a regular antibiotic in your body - for 10 days. My daughter was on this a few weeks ago and that's what he doc told us. She was much better in a few days. They have told me it does hit the infection faster and harder.

Glad to hear her fever is down and she probably could go to school now but is probably more run down from having that fever and cough than anything. I still wouldn't send her but....just say this - a few more days, a few more days.

SIL is a pharmacy tech and they have Em on a good drug in terms of helping her battle this stuff. It's too bad you are having to discuss health.

Good to know that Em is going to hang with you for a couple weeks. Some couch potato time will have her better soon!

I now just saw this... I do hope that little Em is feeling better soon! I know my dad has taken Zithromax before for sinus infections and another friend of mine just got some today for a bronchial thing she has, so I know it is good stuff :)

Boy, I am glad I came to you guys with this.

I am feeling much better about the whole thing.

A few more days, a few more days.

I sure hope Em is feeling better and will be in your comforting arms soon!!:D

DS15 Calls Zithromax the "Wonder Drug" and I have to agree!! I'm a nurse and love this antibiotic. Its easy to take(very few side effects!) works quickly (yes she would feel much better after 3 days) and kills a broad spectrum of microorganism.

Relax sounds like she'll be fine.:D

I sure hope that 3 days of antibiotics have turned the trick and that Em is no longer contagious. Praying that she is 100% better very soon.

all my best to Em and all of you. I'll be praying hard until Saturday. Please keep us updated.

Zithro's done wonders for me a couple of times, too. At least they have her on a good medication.

Man, I want to strangle that mom. Poor Em. :( If I were one to wish bad things on people, I'd wish her mom would catch double-pneumonia and have to go to the hospital for 2 weeks before it gets cleared up so *MAYBE* she'd get a clue about how dangerous and draining pneumonia can be.

OMG has that woman not been watching the news lately?

I would definitely call the school if she insists on sending her and then make absolutely that they have a current phone number and cell phone number for you so that if they can't get ahold of her mom that they will at least call you. I can only imagine how you are feeling because I am so scared of this flu this year.

My sister is in one of those awful situations where she can't control the absolute moronic things that go on in the other house so I can TOTALLY sympathize with you.

BTW I recently read your trip report and really enjoyed it. I am sure that "Chuck and Dave" would be sending her big hugs right now.

Take care!

First off, let me say :grouphug: to you and Del!!! I know almost EXACTLY what you are going through. The only differences are my "Em" (Maiya) is 2 and I did not have to "fight" with her biological mother.

Maiya's illness lasted 2 1/2 weeks and was actually 4 back-to-back illnesses! She started with some type of virus that gave her sores on her tongue, then she moved on to bronchitis. While on 4 meds (2 prescrition including Zythromax and 2 over-the-counter), she developed a double ear infection. At that point, the Dr took her off of Zythromax and put her on Omnicef. Three days later, we were at the peds for the 3rd time in 7 days. When we got to the Drs office, it was 4pm and Maiya had not had a wet diaper since 8 am, and she had only drunk about 4 oz. Combined with her purple tinged lips, the peds office immediately sent us to the hospital where Maiya spent 2 nights getting rehydrated and pumped full of IV antibiotics. Bottom line diagnosis was pneumonia and sever dehydration.

So, I guess my advice it to keep pushing! Em is very sick, and if I were a parent of a student in her class, I would be totally ticked off at bio-mom for sending that child to school. I lost 2 1/2 weeks of work (minus weekends and 1 weekday that DH stayed home) and Maiya was out of school for that same period. These illnesses are nothing to be playing with. Em needs to stay home and lots of TLC. Even if you don't get her until this weekend, at least she will get that when you and Del get her.

Hang in there. 55,000 of your closest friends are on your side!

PS. Maiya is fine now!!

Hugs and lots of prayers out to all of you, and especially Em. Hope she's feeling better soon.

I'm sorry to hear Em is sick. :( Sending prayers and pixie dust her way for a speedy recovery.

First of all I hope that Emily is feeling better soon. Secondly, do you know if they gave her anything for the cough an inhaler or nebulizer? Maybe Del can either speak to Em's mom or even the ER, if her mom trusts the dr's there, maybe they can tell her that it would be in EM's best interestto rest at home. At the very least the school nurse should be notified and make sure she knoe=ws that Em should not be playing gyn at all!! Hope she is felling better and with you real soon.

Tara

Sending prayers, PD and hugs for you, Em, Del and family
:genie: :grouphug:
Hope she is all well for the Christmas holiday

:worried:

Lots and lots and lots and lots of Pixie Dust!

I will say an extra special prayer for little Em.

God Please protect this child.
