I heard them talking about this earlier today on the radio. Some of the callers were saying that it seemed a bit odd since Elton is pretty much the opposite for what Rush stands for. Some were questioning Elton's motives. Maybe for the money, maybe he was trying to bring attention to gay marriage, maybe Rush's wife wanted Elton there...

I can imagine the phone call from Rush to Elton was probably a little awkward. ;)

Wouldn't it make more sense to ask what Rush's motivation was to invite Elton John and not ask what Elton John's motivation was for going?

Who cares what their motivation was. I hope they both had a great time.

Rush's 4th wedding. What a way to promote traditional family values.

Hope they had fun too. Can't stand Limbaugh, pompous... okay, stopping now before I get dinged. Love Elton John tho; I'd have attended for that alone! ;)

Rush's 33 year old wife is a very vocal gay-marriage advocate. :)

I'm sorry. I do wonder what they were. Maybe he likes Elton's music, maybe his wife wanted Elton there...

It just seems an unlikely match.

Me too.

I mis-read the title and thought it said that Elton had *paid* for the wedding. Now that would have been even more odd!

Best wishes to Rush Limbaugh and his lovely wife. Why wouldn't Rush want Elton John to play at his wedding? Elton John's sexuality has absolutely nothing to do with anyone's taste in music or their talent. I am sure Rush spent his late teens or 20 somethings listening to Elton John and probably enjoys his music very much. I like Rush and I wish them well.

I don't find it strange. Elton John is a talented performer. Rush is fairly wealthy. Rush (or his bride) obviously likes Elton's music, and can afford to pay the rate that Elton charges for his time. It's a business arrangement. Their political views really have nothing to do with it.

Rush doesn't personally "stand for" anything. He has an act. He and John are both entertainers.

Why do either have to have a "political" motivation? I consider myself, politically speaking, probably a bit right of Rush... But I grew up listening to Elton John (even though I am only 27) and if money allowed, would love for him to play at my wedding. Why does everything has to be politically motivated?

In talk radio, "an act" wouldn't get you very far for very long. The audience would certainly tune "an act" out after a while. Rush stands for conservativism and his views are always consistent with his words.

I agree. I'm sure it was nothing more than they like Elton John's music. IIRC, Rush did not start out in talk radio. I believe he was a regular dj and is probably very knowledgable about music -- especially from the period before talk radio.

Also, while Rush is absolutely consistent in his views and actions, even he will say he is an entertainer.

I admit I did a double take when I saw this online. But like a PP said, I'm sure everyone had a lovely time and I'm betting Elton did donate the money to his charity. No harm, no foul!

Limbaugh may love Elton's music, but personally I see Elton laughing all the way to the bank on this one- an outspoken, right wing, anti-homosexuality conservative paying him, an openly homosexual male, to play at his (Limbaugh's) wedding. Doesn't get much better than that when it comes to irony. I don't buy into the "act" for Limbaugh, I think his views are his views whether he's on the radio or off.
