Elton John plays for Rush Limbaugh's wedding

He's an entertainer. Its what he gets paid to do. Why does there have to be a motive? Its his job. :confused3

Limbaugh may love Elton's music, but personally I see Elton laughing all the way to the bank on this one- an outspoken, right wing, anti-homosexuality conservative paying him, an openly homosexual male, to play at his (Limbaugh's) wedding. Doesn't get much better than that when it comes to irony. I don't buy into the "act" for Limbaugh, I think his views are his views whether he's on the radio or off.

I guess I just don't see what the big deal is. Elton John is a performer and that's what the Limbaughs asked him to do.

And on a side note, it is possible for people with such diverse opinions to genuinely like each other. I am a conservative Christian, and my best friend is a passionate liberal who recently divorced her husband and had her lesbian lover move in with her and her children. She is also very good at what she does professionally and I wouldn't hesitate to go to her if I needed her services or recommend her to others. I know many folks don't want to patronize people who don't share their beliefs, but I am not one of them. Apparently, Rush isn't either.

Why would Elton be laughing all the way to the bank? Rush willingly hired him, knowing full well who he is, its not like he was tricked into it :confused3
Its funny, I never check the political views of those I hire, or even my friends, why does everyone expect someone like Rush to always do that? Its a big world filled with people who have different political views, are we supposed to stay divided in all aspects of life because we are on different sides of the aisle?

Rush is anti gay? I know he's conservative but so was my gay brother-in-law.

Forget Elton John - I can't get past the idea that there are four women in the world willing to marry Rush Limbaugh!:rolleyes1

:rotfl:

I love Elton John, I think it would be amazing to see him in a more intimate setting (I realize tons of people probably went to the wedding, but its most likely fewer than go to Elton's concerts!)

Back in the early 1970s (1972 or so) the mother of a friend of mine called Elton John's agent and asked how much for Elton to appear and perform at a private birthday party (for said friend). The fee: $10,000.00, which I believe got Elton only (although I am fuzzy about that part). She thought it was too expensive.

Most people though, aren't on the airwaves publicly espousing their "disapproval" (nice word) of practices/groups that they don't agree with. It really doesn't matter to me why Limbaugh wanted to hire Elton John, as I said before, I just find it ironic. I'm sure Elton will take his money where he can get it, it's a business deal, but on this one I would think that some small part of him is amused at the whole situation.

Business is business. That being said, there are some things that I feel passionately enough about that I would not strike a friendship up with someone who openly and vocally disagreed. Racism and Gay rights are just a couple of them. I don't think it's okay to like/dislike or judge someone on the basis of skin color or sexual orientation, and have no desire to have friends who do. That may limit my friendship pool, but somehow I'm not too worried about it.

I think I explained my response above ^^, but I didn't mean Rush hired Elton not knowing his background, or was tricked into hiring him, I simply meant that as I said above, I know if I were in Elton's place it would amuse me somewhat to take Limbaugh's money knowing his stance on homosexuality. I would be shocked if the same thing didn't occur to Elton on some level. (Though heaven knows it wouldn't be the first thing in life to shock me, or the last!)
