Has anyone else heard this? Mouseplanet says it is closing for 9 months starting in Oct. to scale back!!! Will it be open for the Holidays? This makes me very angry considering we never get to scale back when paying for our trips or merchandise!

Could it be Electrical Light Parade? Unfortunately, I do not know the answer to the OP's question.

I think I'm going to cry... we are going to Disneyland an extra night JUST to see the Electric Light Parade this time!

so we could have one night of Fantastmic, one night of rides during the parade... and the parade :(

I'm gonna cry *sniffle*

Its listed on Miceage as well.
It won't be back for the holidays, since the holiday parade will be coming to DCA this year.

Unfortunately, thats one of the consequenses of going during off-peak times. If you wnat to enjoy the parks, you have to accept scheduled maintenance and refurbs.

Its not on the schedule for when we go in September, either. We are very disappointed. We havent been in 20 Yrs to DL. Our kids have never been. We usually go to WDW.ELP was one of the things we were most looking forward to seeing. First we found out the HM would be closed, then CS, now this.

I disagree in the case of the electrical parade. In the past, when a float needed maintenance or refurb, it would be taken out of the parade, was needed. This is neither maintenance, nor refurb. It's cost reduction.

btw, I've also read that the Snow White show is shutting down at the same time, and that "Remember" will move to Fri/Sat nights only.

I think the comment about expecting scheduled maintencane and refurbs was for the parks themselves and not just this parade. I agree going off season means less entertainment and less rides open. I am not surprised abou the fireworks, I never though they would be able to pull off having them nightly. I know they do them during the school year for the holidays, but believe me they do hear about it from those that live near DL. They are loud. I can hear them every night. In fact I notice the nights when they don't have them because I don't hear them. As for Electric parade, I think it was a decision between showing block party bash or electric parade on the weekends. DL does not have a huge college program the way WDW has. Most of the CMs are local students, so when the off season hits it's harder to get the people in to work.

I'm not saying its not cost reduction. However they use these cost reduction tactics every year in the off season. Shorter hours, less rides and entertainment. For Snow White, I think it's because the numbers were not where they wanted them. For the parade, I'm sure it's because they have a different parade to take its place. As for fireworks, they are expensive to show nightly and they get many complaints. Disney has been trying for the past 5 years to do something about it, but with the noise and smoke of the fireworks, it's kind of hard to do much about it.

Can I suggest that anyone who is unhappy with the cutbacks to parades and fireworks during the coming months, voice your concern by going to Disneyland dot com and clicking the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page (I have already).

They won't know there's a problem until we tell them!

I didn't realize the local issue with fireworks. Does Disneyland get a free pass in the summer for firing them nightly? I read elsewhere that DCA numbers this summer have been abysmal. The ELP mothballing could be a response. But (and correct me if I'm wrong) doesn't taking it away further disincent guests to visit? Call me crazy.

Here's another way to look at it-
On certain times of the year, we fix banquet- type of meals. Thanksgiving, maybe a summer barbeque, etc. There's lots of choices of meats, vegetables, breads, everything- lots of choices, because we have lots of guests. But we only offer these extra choices on those busy nights. Every other night we fix one meat, one vegetable, one carb.

Why don't we fix Thanksgiving dinner every night? Because
(1)We don't have to
(2) It wouldn't be cost effective
(3) One choice is enought for MOST people.

Just the same, one parade a day is enough to keep MOST people happy during the less busy times.

I understand what you are saying, but there are a lot of people who intentionally stay a weekend night to deal with the crowds so they can see the ELP parade or Fantasmic. Also summer is not the only busy time at DL. What about Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday breaks? These are very crowded times but most of the people going expect and hope to see these 2 big deals. I am certainly one of them!

The complaints about noise and smoke come from the neighbors of the parks. I equate it with folks who live near an airport and complain about planes constantly overhead. While the fireworks do indeed cause noise and smoke, it would not matter what steps were taken to reduce them, there would still be complaints. We moved here to SOCAL (45 minutes from DL :rotfl2: ) and almost every week there is some group complaining about noise, traffic, polution from the parks. I'm sure that the surrounding areas would be upset if the tax dollars generated by the parks were to stop coming in.

End of rant, return to calm status. :rolleyes1

As already stated, during the winter holidays, the ELP is being pre-empted by the holiday parade which is moving over to DCA this year. I can't wait to see that!

The Holiday parade is nice enough. But it doesn't give you the same feel as the ELP or the satisfaction from your little ones' faces when they see it. At least in my opinion. Look, all I am saying is that I have the right to be very dissapointed. This is one of the reasons we go at a busy time. I am just not feeling very diplomatic about it. I just worry now that they are going to take away the snow and fireworks too! And let's face it. Disney doesn't go out of there way to let you know very far in advance about these cutbacks.
