We are eloping in Nov, and I am super excited about it! But I am sad that I have no one to go dress shopping with. My best friend is the only one who knows and she lives a long flight away. I am about to start a new job so no time off for a little while.

Anyone go dress shopping alone? I dont really know anyone here, so no one to shop with. :scared:

hmmmm....I don't think I've ever heard of a planned elopement - 9 months out, anyway.

Good luck dress shopping. I guess just buy something that you really like.

We want to get married on a beach, far from the drama of the in laws, and this is an affordable option for us.

not a fan of cell phones in fitting rooms, but in your case...take pictures and send them to your friend, maybe she can be a cyber shopper with you!
Congrats!

I have two friends who eloped. Both wore red dresses. They looked gorgeous!

:goodvibes Texas? LOL! I love shopping!

I bought my dress alone. I had just moved away from family/friends and the only people I knew were coworkers. It was fine. Just tell the attendant you're eloping. They'll understand.

Post your dress pics here. Have the sales person take pics of you or the dress. We've helped people before to pick out various dresses & outfits. :grouphug: No one has ever been mean or snarky about it. It's quite fun. :woohoo:

Could your friend plan a long weekend to come to you and go shopping together? Or would you feel comfortable taking your DH to be? Let him see your top 3 or so but don't tell him the one you choose.

Just saw the beach wedding part. Don't feel tied to bridal shops. One of my best friends found her wedding dress at Dillards.

Alabama? I love weddings!! I have helped several friends plan weddings - it's so much fun.

You don't mention a budget, but a beach wedding can be as formal or as informal as you desire. You won't have the expense of a reception or invitations, so you can spend whatever you can afford on your dress and flowers. I would suggest that you NOT skimp on the photographer. Even though you see it as an elopement, I see it as a VERY small destination wedding, and you will want to remember it, the same as any bride. :bride:

I like the idea of you posting pics here, if the bridal shops will allow pics. If you have anyone at all you can trust, a friend or even a co-worker to shop with, I do think it's more fun to shop with someone to oooh and ahhh over you (although they will likely do that at the shop if you are alone). Or we can do it, if you like. :goodvibes

If you are crossing state lines to get to your beach destination, make sure you get your marriage licence in that state and find out in advance what the requirements are. You don't want unpleasant legal surprises!

I went wedding dress shopping alone. I had a very limited budget and decided to browse in Belk's one rainy day. The very first dress I saw, I tried on and loved. But watching all these wedding shows does make me wish I had shared the experience with someone. :sad1:

I think you should cyber shop with your frined. Have a sales associate take photos for you and send them to your friend.

Happy elopement!

Congrats!

A friend did this when she went shopping for a cruise - texted me pictures and I texted back my comments. It was fun!

Unconventional, but maybe go shopping with your fiance? He doesn't have to know which dress you end up with.

My brother and SIL eloped during a cruise and had a beach wedding. The family always knew that it would happen some day. When they returned, they were given a reception by family and friends.

My SIL wore a lovely cotton strappy white sun dress. My brother wore Khakis and a white buttoned short sleeved shirt. No shoes. It was perfect.

Just find something that you feel beautiful in. Have your fiance choose something similar and you will compliment each other in photos.

Hey, fiance and I are planning on getting married in November too! 11/1/11 to be exact. We are going to get married in Orlando!

If you live in Michigan, let me know! We can go dress shopping together!
:goodvibes

I'm having a heck of a time finding anything I really like right now.

I wish I went dress shopping alone. After I bought my non-returnable dress, my shopping mate (best thing I can call her now) said, "And just think, you have WEEKS to make your arms look good for that dress."

Yeah, uhm, why couldn't you have said that before I bought the dress?
