Ellen's Universe of Energy

Its been awhile sense Ive been on it but its on these big car things like the Great Movie Ride cars and it talks about the Big Bang and Dinosours and different types of energy and stuff.

It is very long but I enjoy it! If you are a fan of Ellen, you must go! It's hilarious. I'm sure other people on here can give better detailed descriptions, but it is a mix of watching screens and a slow moving ride. Ellen has a dream that she is on Jeopardy and wants to beat her old college roomate who is a know it all (played by Jamie Lee Curtis) so Bill Nye The Science Guy takes her on a journey through time so she can learn all about energy. I think it is worth a ride, the jokes keep you entertained and you learn a lot. The ride through is also cool because there are dinosaurs and such.

We tried to ride this a few weeks ago and it was down. But it is 45 minutes long- you get a pre-show that you stand(unless you get a seat along the wall) It is funny if you are into Ellen. Then everyone has to load onto these HUGE moving cars- three rows across of them- they go one by one into the ride(that takes time) and then they all line up again at the end of the ride in the "movie" room. that takes more time. The ride itself doesn't feel that long- it is just very very slow moving. A fun one but realize you will be in there for a loooooooong time.

Can someone describe this ride? I just hear that it is 45 minutes long- long ride.

Its a light-hearted look at the various forms of energy, where it comes from, what are the alternatives... normally a "dry" subject, but the writers have put together a snappy multi-media, multi-room, multi-format show with an amazing ride system of moving "theater seats".

Ultra wide-screen movies, multi-track stereo surround sound, clever voice-overs, and fun "cameos" by a few well-known celebs.

There is a MASSIVE section that features life-sized Dinosaurs and their environment (humidity, smells, sounds, the whole deal).

The whole thing stars Ellen and Bill Nye, the Science Guy and they work very well with the funny script.

I can't fully describe this major attraction, but it features the "Jeopardy" show (Alex and all) plus the "universe" gets a show-stopping "BANG" as well.

BTW, be sure to get there EARLY (ask the CM at the entrance) as you want to see ALL of Ellen's snappy (very funny) "introduction" on multi-screens in the WAITING ROOM... BEFORE you actually enter the "ride" itself!

Make sure you get in to see the pre-show. It's a short movie that really sets up the attraction. You don't usually notice that it lasts for 45 minutes the first time you experience it. It's packed with facts about energy sources,& conservation, with a dash of humor. I remember back when it was presented a little more dryly, before it featured Ellen, it was like watching a documentary. It was the best placed to take a nap on hot days. :teeth: Worth doning at least once.

My son 11 and I both really like this ride. The pre-show is funny and even though you have to sit on the floor its a nice break in a air-conditioned room. We love the "ride" part. When my son was 9 he thought it was the coolest thing ever. He still likes it but isn't quite as thrilled as the first time.

Neither one of us expected the seats to move so that was fun.

It was ok-dh and I were tired and we fell asleep. It was very similar to the old Energy ride. It's a nice place to go and sit for a while-especially in the heat

Yes.

They both have the word ENERGY in their names.

:rotfl2:

We've been going to Disney for years and always bypassed Universe of Energy. We "discovered" it last year and it is now my kids favorite thing besides Soarin to do at Epcot!

It's a nice relaxing air conditioned attraction... I highly recommend it!

I love Bill Nye and mix him with Ellen and it's just hysterical.

I wasn't impressed by the humor in the ride though - don't expect much more than Big dinos going "munchy munchy".

As "old" as my family is DS' 24 & 20 and DH & I over 50...we absolutely LOVE  this show. It really technically is NOT a ride. It is more of a show of sorts. I mean it is not a roller coaster at all. You sit in comfy seats
and travel with Ellen as she is taught by Bill Nye the Science Guy all about ENERGY!!! Very funny as well as very well put together and very knowledgeable. It is a MUST DO at WDW :thumbsup2

It's a great alternative for folks like me who can't ride the Dinosaur ride at AK - still get the atmosphere of the dinos, but not all the jostling and scariness!

As the other posters mentioned, it doesn't feel like 45 minutes... it's air conditioned and you get to SIT :thumbsup2 A great break from the heat and sore feet!

If you don't like Ellen and her sense of humor, you definitely won't love this ride. But I adore her, think she is hilarious and I think that she and Bill Nye do a great job giving this old-fashioned ride a makeover. :thumbsup2

We took our DS(2) on this in May. It is rather long but the worst part was that it is extremely loud. The noise can be quite scary for young children. But it was nice and cool inside.

Pre show is great with Alex Trebec, Jamie Lee Curtis and Bill Nye the Science Guy along with Ellen. This is our guilty pleasure, as much as we enjoy this ride, once we get on those slow moving vehicles in the dark air conditioned prehistoric backdrop, well, can't tell you how many times we rode it before we remembered the whole ride. Cat naps are Great in the afternoon!!! We always get off totally refreshed, and smater- if there is anything to that whole osmosis thing! :thumbsup2

This is one of my favorite attractions at Epcot. I love the humor, and the way the whole show progresses. However, my favorite thing about this show is the music-- a fantastic Bruce Broughton score that Disney hasn't released anywhere (grumble grumble.) We also use it as an air conditioned "break" in the middle of the day.

I do have the EXIT muisic in stereo (source file, not "camcorder audio").
So complex, yet light-hearted (a Broughton specialty.)
Its a thing of beauty (as are most of his scores).

He also did "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience" I also have the exit music from that.

I'd really like to find the WHOLE score for Ellen, though.

i'm actualy one of those people who find the new version of Energy stupid. the whole jepordy thing is just pointless and really drags the ride along.

I like ellen, and bill nye but the Jepordy thing is what really doesn't do it for me.

still the attraction is still a far cry from it's original majestic conception.

I have noticed however that the apatosaurs are not longer in a marsh
