Took my gf Daughter to see this flick today it was weird but funny

anybody else see it???

I took my 3 DDs today to see Scooby Doo! They really wanted to see Ella Enchanted, but DN wanted to see Scooby...so they made me promise to take them on Friday! I really don't want to see(it looks too goofy)it, but they had such great report cards...so they've earned it!

I took DD to see it Saturday. It was my turn to pick (we went to the movies on Friday and on Saturday) so this was it even though she's 13 and thought she'd be too old for it. We both liked it--it was cute.

My DD read the book a few years ago and loved it. I think she would like to go see the movie, but it isn't "cool" enough for teenagers.

We'll probably see it this weekend.

The book is very cute but I love to read children's books. I read it a second time when I found out they were making a movie. I can already tell from the previews that the movie won't be as good, but are they ever?

Well, kellyb, then I have to warn you - they basically changed the ENTIRE story!

It is one of my DD's favorite books. She has read it over and over again and was SO excited that they were making it into a movie. She was very disappointed. It's not a bad movie, but it's also not a very good one and it's certainly not as sweet and endearing as the book. I hate when Hollywood completely alters a story!

I went with my DD to see it. It was pretty corny, but they liked it. I've been asked if it is appropriate for a 4 year old. I think it is if they'd follow the story. Nothing was too scary or terribly violent. What do you think?

We (DD's 8 and 10) thought it was cute. DD, 10, adores the book, and was a little disappointed that it was so different. She did really enjoy the movie, though, and there were lots of teenage girls in there who clapped at the end!

The only thing I didn't like was that my DD said in the book the housekeeper was much older. I said Minnie Driver is around my age and she looked at me as if I was crazy and said she had to be alot younger!!!!!

We liked it!

I took DD (12) and DS (9) on Easter. I enjoyed it well enough. On the way out, DD said "It wasn't that funny, but I guess it was still a good movie." DS said "I hated it." I think he liked it though and was afraid to admit that he liked a "chick flick."

DD was a little disappointed because the previews make it seem like it is going to be really funny, but it is mildly funny.

I LOVE the book, and was a little trepidatious about the movie. We went as a family on opening day, and gave it mixed reviews. 10yo DD and I really liked it, even though it is nothing like the book. (We decided to treat them as two totally different entities!) 12yo DS hated it. (Believe it or not, he loved the book; the reason he hated the movie was that it didn't follow the book well enough.) 4yo DD liked it fine, although she tried to hide her eyes during an especially tense scene involving a dagger. DH fell asleep.

Scroll down for a more complete review that I posted on another board. Don't read it if you don't want spoilers....

The basic elements of the book were there: Ella was "blessed" by the fairy Lucinda with the gift of obedience, and had to obey EVERY command, even at the risk of her own life. Her wicked stepsister discovered this, and used it to her own advantage. Ella fell in love with the prince, and had to fight her mandatory obedience so that he wouldn't be killed. That framework was in place, but what the framework was filled with didn't bear much resemblance to the book.

The party of Mandy, the fairy godmother, was played by .... Minnie Driver?!? Not how I pictured Mandy at all. There were lots of additional characters, including an elf who wanted to be a lawyer and Prince Char's evil uncle, who wants Char dead so that he (the uncle) can be king.

The music is mostly rock. There is a sequence at the giant's wedding where the giants dress in slightly revealing clothing and dance slightly provocative dances.

The giants, elves, and ogres all team together to help Char and Ella (and themselves.)

While it was sort of medieval, there were a lot of modern twists. Like, Char was there for the opening of the new mall in Frell, the "Frell Galleria." Ella and the sisters went to the "Community College of Frell." There was an escalator (run by men turning a pulley) in the mall. Ella was forced to shoplift by the stepsisters. The stepsisters were in the Char Fan Club, and had Char posters on the wall. That kind of thing.

The scenery and sets were GORGEOUS. I loved how the movie "looked." (DD says it was taped in Ireland.)

Considering how different it was from the book, though, I have to say that I REALLY liked it. If I had never read the book, I would have loved the movie. There really is nothing objectionable in it, except for the giants with bared midriffs and a couple of uses of the word "but*t" (as in, Char had a cute one, according to one of his fans.) If you don't like rock music or magic, you won't like it.

It was filmed in Ireland, my husband worked on it.
Looking forward to seeing it soon.

I saw it with my DH, DS (11 yrs old) and DD (9 yrs old) and we really liked it! The music is great (especially for us that fondly remember the 70's!) and Anne Hathaway is so talented! She can sing, dance and is beautiful too!

I'm a little late jumping in here, but we just saw this yesterday. I have never read the book so I have nothing to compare it too. DD, 8, really wanted to see it, I was not so keen. Boy, was I wrong. I loved this movie, it was cute and sweet and funny. And I loved the music too, we bought the CD on the way home. And who knew Anne Hathaway could sing, all these talented teens these days, wish I had half their talent.
