This may just be a me problem, but does anyone else have issues with extreme calf muscle discomfort coming from using the elliptical equipment aboard the DCL ships?

I have been working out for about the past 13 years using elliptical equipment at my local gym. I do 5 miles a day. The elliptical equipment at my gym has foot pedals that are inclined, and I never have any problem with soreness or stiffness from using it.

The ellipticals on the DCL ships (and at many hotels) have flat pedals. It has reached the point that if I use one of these machines for a workout, that I get painful knots in my calf muscles. This causes difficulty walking and excruciating pain for 4-5 days.

I guess I could go back to the treadmill, but I get knee pain after a couple of running sessions.

Or, I guess I could just give myself a rest from workouts altogether while on board, and deal with the extra weight gain when I get home.

I run everyday and occasional use the elliptical s at the gym to give my knees a break from the pounding. I had the same problem with elipitals on the DCL ships. My calves started cramping up. It was weird. I never used them again after that. I have really muscular calves from all my years of running so I'm not sure why these machines bother me so much. My husband uses them and never has a problem. I don't have a problem with the elipiticals at our gym at all.

For me, it's not a calf distress, it's an upper hip distress. I love elliptical equipment...use it every day. I never have the upper hip discomfort that I have on the DCL ellipticals. I always chalked it up to the fact that I am a shorter person, (5'0"), so I just thought they weren't calibrated to my body type. That could still be it, but I'm somehow comforted to know that it's not only me that finds those machines challenging.
